dragonfly35 good things come to those who wait, they really, really do!
I still want to do it, but I’m going to make some room on my list for more immediate goals. Maybe when I’m finished with grad school this will be a more realistic option for me.
P1nk Potato is cursing at the sky!
How I did it: I signed up for ELAP with ISA (International Studies Abroad). I volunteered in the month of August. In the morning, I helped at a senior citzens' nursing home. It was not any life-changing work. I kept them company by exercising with them, dancing to the mariachi band, talking, and asking questions that pertain to the secret of life (e.g. What is the best way to live?) Quite interesting times. In the afternoon, I helped at a girls' orphana… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I was sponsored through my church to go and help with the local missionaries living there. Many Spanish parents send their kids to summers camps and I worked with the kids that wanted to learn English. At the time I knew no spanish, but was able to teach through hand gestures and role playing. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I had an english teaching internship here in France. It was definitely a challenge. What surprised me about this goal, is I made a goal to volunteer "abroad" and I ended up doing it the longest in a Western country! I have, however, also volunteered in Costa Rica, planting trees, building turtle hatcheries, and painting schools. Read how I did it…

ParamoreGirl Is getting ready for her job interview and is going to join the gym!
This year i should of been working on a American summer camp but due to the recession my place was taken away… i was heartbroken because i was looking forward to travelling and helping people in a country i have always wanted to visit. I felt like it was my last chance to volunteer abroad due tot the fact i finish univeristy next year and will have to pay off my debts.
Therefore im looking for some volunteer jobs abroad, that i dont have to pay alot to do, will only last for a few weeks and where you can join a group to go with.
Any ideas? Because im totally stuck even after spending hours looking on websites.

Do volunteering in Asia as an English teacher. For example with travel2teach. Or, as the daughter of a friend of my mum did, teach at a school in Indonesia.
I make all these plans, hopefully I will one day make them happen :)
I volunteered at an orphanage. The children were so welcoming and approached me right away every time I arrived. The biggest challenge was trying to lift several kids at once :) They were so adorable and an inspiration. It’s an experience I won’t forget.
I want to travel to another country not as a tourist, but to be part of a project that will change the lives of the people there.
Treefern is secretly a ninja
I am thinking about going to Shenzen to volunteer, I will learn more about the program soon.
It’s to build homes.
I found this website called G.A.P Adventures, and they have some volunteer opportunities.
I just don’t know which to go to first…? Costa Rica, Ecuador, India, or Africa?
Decisions…decisions…

Volunteering makes me happy, and have always wanted to travel around the globe…seems like a win-win situation.
I’m planning on doing six months in Chile next year! I’m thinking of taking a semester off of University for this, though my friends and parents think that’s a terrible idea. But I feel that if I wait until after university, I’ll be paying off my loans so I’ll need a job then and volunteering isn’t the best option… and I think that I just need to go. I’m studying abroad in England right now, and being away makes me appreciate the world. I’m thinking of going with Mondo Challenge, a UK based company. It’s not that expensive, definately check it out! It’s only 3000$ for six months!!!!

Eau des Merveilles asks,
“Anyone know of a reliable organization for volunteering in South America? I've heard a lot of these organizations are fakes. Thanks!”
