AA16. That was my seat number. And that meant that I was resting my feet on the stage. Impressed? I was.
I have a hunch that my fave song of his “Heart’s a Mess” – doesn’t actually have the climax that I hear on his album. There’s one point where, to me, it seems like an explosion and it’s awesome. I was confused when the video clip ignored it, and then live he doesn’t really give it any extra time either… oh well.
But the show, none the less, was extraordinary. With 5 people on strings you can’t got wrong.
Gotye, yeah!

They are fantastic. Really they are.
And considering how much I spent to flow down to Melb to see them so you’d want to HOPE SO! (never buy last minute tix, NEVER). I think in the end I worked out I paid about $450 to see them. wow. ouch. But what’s money?
Their song “23” was the highlight. I love it.
Saddest moment was when someone in the crowd yelled out “MESSENGER!” which is, in fact, the first song of theirs I ever heard – and in turn forced me to love them – and Kazu replied “we don’t have the instruments” or something to that effect :(
saaad panda.
But great show. g.r.e.a.t.
Chris launched his EP – A New Logic, at the Zoo.
It was such a great night. And, as I usually do when I’m friends with the band, i got trez nervous about the turnout. But it didn’t matter – cos the crowd was great (and sizable) and the music was (as expected) SENSATIONAL!
Hunz supported, and as usual, and as I’ve previously posted, was fantastic.
While Young Modern may not be their best album, live they’re still incredible.
“Those Thieving Birds” and “If You Keep Losing Sleep” are my two favourites from the new album – and live, Birds is even better. THAT is new Silverchair. ...i like to think of it as an EP and I skip maybe 5 other tracks.
They also threw the classic “Freak” out there. Great as ever. And “Luv Your life”... I got flashbacks to their Across the Night tour. They’ve kept their serious realestate in my heart. They’re still amazing.
1x Flute + 1x French horn + 1x violin + 1x cello +1x double bass + 1x Sarah Blasko = 1x beautiful evening.
Thankyou to Danz for starters for convincing me to get a ticket (I wasn’t gonna cos it was a big $50 and i had seen her at her last tour only a few months ago.)
She played at the Cremorne theatre and everyone was really dressed up and very reserved. It was really fun – a lot like a classical recital.
After intermission (!!!) she says “I have a surprise… he’s from Sydney but he’s really a Queenslander at heart” and she pulled out DARREN HANLON!
They then together played Woman in the Well (lovely!), one of his songs, some song where she cutely sings “I want to smash his face” heheh and finished on Rainbow Connection!!!
What a great night. – le sigh -
He’s great.
And an awesome set as usual.
The Living Room has generally bad sound, and unfortunately last night was no exception :(
But regardless I’m looking forward to his album later in the year.
...it’s weird gushing like this over someone I know personally. And Danielle… If you’ve googled your husband’s name again, and you find this post… ...well, that’s just awkward isn’t it?
Looking at the above picture you’d think they’d be awesome wouldn’t you?
...
ok. Bren (my bro), Em and myself went to our first Mars Volta gig early last year. Seeing as how much we love their albums we thought it should be a good show. We HATED it. So many stupid guitar solos and basically just mashing of every intrument for the whole time. awful.
But it was at the Arena (a really crap venue) so we figured we’d give them another shot.
With tickets twice the price and the Volta being at the Bris Convention centre (an awesomely huge venue), we thought this’d be it.
Nope. They were awful again. Boring. Mashing. Noise.
We walked out after an hour (knowing there was probably another 90 mins left).
balls. So that’s the last Volta ticket we ever buy. I think I’ll stick to their studio stuff from now on.
Pete = disappointed panda.
I’ve loved elbow for a few years now. And I’ve been waiting eagerly for them to come to town. Last night they did.
I thought they’d be good. But, holy crap. Dajh and Chris both came with, and Dajh, not really being a big fan, really just went to see my reaction. It was the best show any of us had seen in ages. They were superb. Dajh now “wants to fall hopelessly in love” with them.
“Macgregor” was amazing. Everytime Guy Garvey (lead) would bash down on the drums the stage would explode in blinding light for an instant. Really cool. sigh. I <3 elbow so bad.
Sparkadia were good too. Like every rock band you’ve ever liked mashed into a great big pile. Nothing new but great to listen to.
What is there not to love about this little cherub?
okay that just sounded sickening but once you see this girl live you’d be saying just the same. She’s so beautiful and so cute…
She finally played “Peach, Plum, Pear” (she didn’t the first time I saw her) but unfortunately didn’t play my favourite “Monkey and Bear” so I guess it evens out.
I wonderful night. I just want to find a way to have her play most nights in my loungeroom. ...or if she could just be my friend…
