I am busy with my first mosaic (ever!).
A balinese dragon. The picture you are seeing is a wooden sculpture made by the very talented Ketut Taram ( novica.com)
That is what I am going to copy ( or atleast use as a big inspiration for my peace of mosaic)
Wish me luck;)

Couple of years ago I went to Barcelona and saw some of Gaudi’s amazing mosaic works. Ever since I’ve wanted to do mosaic to my own home.

This is one of the mosaics I am in the process of completing – it’s the left wall of the shower. I got books from the library and READ a lot. I am redoing my middle bathroom and bedroom, making it into one large mosaic bathroom and this is one of the two mosaics I’m working on. The other one is a waterfall that surrounds my shower spickets. The wall in the toilet area will be a dragon I made out of clay (I have a kiln). I don’t like the background so I will have to reglaze it and refire it before I can adhear it to the wall. It is a sea dragon that will be coming out of the waterfall ares…one continuous water theme. One tip…try to keep your background colors more of the same…the bottom of this mosaic is ttttoooo busy.

eightofeight is clearing her mind, heart soul and life of clutter, little by little
I got some small mirror tiles and small colored tiles to break and add to my calavera project (a painted and decorated skull figure for Day of the Dead). while this isn’t just a mosaic project (the mosaic pieces are to add to the rest of the decorated skull figure), I feel like it’s definitely a start to making mosaic pieces.
I got a book at the used bookstore yesterday about making mosaics, so it’s definitely something I want to do soon. The book will serve as inspiration to take my mosaic idea further. I’d love to do a table top!

I know this isnt the best thing to try as a first project, but I would love to make something like this someday.

I really want to try this. I would like to do some pots, birdbath, and maybe a garden table. Maybe a mirror frame or panel for the house too.

I took a few weeks of lessons and started working on a project—a 12 in by 12 in mosaic of a dove by a fountain. Our class took about a month off, but I think the break is over and I haven’t returned to lessons. Writing this, I’m thinking it would be a shame if I gave up on this, but there is only so much time in a week…

I bought a kit to decorate a flower pot, and was pretty successful. When I can make a project of my own design, I’ll check this one off my list. :)

Got the grouting sponge Friday after work. Got another paving stone and some bender board. Grouted the first pebble mosaic yesterday! I am going to put it in the garden today. I started the second paving stone yesterday using vitreous glass tiles instead of pebbles this time. I finished the tile frog yesterday late afternoon! I am going to plan the background today and order the tiles online. Work is absolutely nuts! There’s a huge deployment next Sunday so I don’t expect to be able to sneak in any trips to the tile store this upcoming week. I got the bender board and some stakes to do an in-ground pebble border in the garden.

I signed up for mosaic lessons, starting this Wednesday. It should be fun. I feel like there are so many things that I should be learning, but this one doesn’t really serve any practical purpose. But that’s probably why I’m looking forward to it. :)
