obtain a library position

My local library 10 months ago

hired a guy from across the country to fill a position several months ago, skipping over me for the job, and what do you know, he’s leaving the organization for greener pastures. I knew that would be the case.

I guess I’ll have to see, once again, if they’re willing to give me a shot. I’m beginning to lose a lot of job/education knowledge as time goes by, but one thing they should know is that I work hard at gaining knowledge and skills I need for a job – especially if it’s a job I want.

One more time... 16 months ago

Applying for a position at the library on the St. Michael’s College campus. It’s a ten minute walk from where I live. That would be amazing to be able to walk to work. More importantly, though, would be the opportunity to work in my field and to build on my job knowledge which is fading and slipping away. (I obtained my MLIS in August 2006) That’s what has me concerned and I hope I will succeed in finding a position soon.

One more shot 2 years ago

at a position. I go in for an interview tomorrow – cataloguer. However, I don’t know if I could take it even if I got the job. The hours are just not there. :(

My last rejection 2 years ago

was my local library in my hometown. I really expected to get the job because there were 2 openings and I have the education, enough experience, and personality I thought would get me the job. Try try again.

Thursday 2 years ago

I have another shot at changing my life. Wish me luck. {fingers crossed} I was called for an interview today.

Another position 2 years ago

has opened up nearby and I’ll apply for it – Assistant Director. Don’t know what my chances are, but I have to try. It’s actually walking distance, too.

However, I’ve heard there has been some turnover there and I’m wondering why. Can’t be any worse than UPS. In fact, their worst is probably a triviality at UPS. If I get an interview I will definitely inquire about this.

Checking out 2 years ago

a Director position in a nearby town. This would be ideal for me – especially now. May the stars be in position for this to take place.

I am going to work 2 years ago

with a library director at a nearby library to help me obtain on-the-job experience so that I can state on my resume that I have experience in cataloguing and Inter-library loans, for example. I have a little cataloguing experience using Triple I, but this is for archive materials, not necessarily books. But I have no ILL experience. Will hopefully start that this week.

Another 2 years ago

application and resume has been sent. I will break through eventually.

Have the degree 2 years ago

now I just need the job. My last attempt at an ILL/IT/Reference position was a failure. Didn’t even get an interview. That doesn’t deter me, though. I want into the profession enough and I will eventually get a position.
