Decided to build up some strength today and do 50 pushups in one day. I did it! Mostly 5 at a time over the course of the day.

I had two problems with the goal today:
  1. My chest got more weak over the course of the day where I couldn’t even string two pushups together
  2. I had several stretches of busy-ness (watching my daughter, coding, and lunch)

It’s 12:45am now and my chest is already feeling a little sore. I’m sure it will be worse tomorrow. :)

Just jumping in like this was worth a try, but clearly I need to do many attempts building up to 100 before the 100 is going to happen for me. Just like anything else you want to accomplish…do a little every day and you’ll make great strides.

I can barely lift myself any more. I’m going to be doing this until midnight… :-/

Ok, it’s 7 and I’ve done 10 so far. My diabolical little plan is to do at least 5 per half hour. If I can do more, well then great.

I’ve decided that this is one of those goals that can be done and it needs to be done this year.

Keep in mind that I weigh too much and my upper body strength is not all that. Nevertheless, I think spreading it out over the day, I can accomplish this. I’ve been rising at 6am each day this week. So I have a date with the floor tomorrow morning at 6.

50 today! 3 years ago

Using an idea from rayfd, I did 10 sets of 5 today (with plenty of rest in between). 5 is about half my current max in one setting. Doing 50 pushups will no doubt help me improve my consecutive goal forward.

A small tweak is sometimes all we need.

I’ve tried this a couple of times and the most I squeezed in for one day was 25. So, I obviously have a long way to go before I can do 100 consecutive. If I apply myself, I can probably do 100 in a day. But that would mean dropping to the ground to “gimme 10” once per hour or so. :-) A less than fun prospect indeed!

This goal is inspired by tonytam who suggested doing 100 in a day, 100 in an hour, and then 100 consecutive as the culmination of the goals. In my attempt to accomplish the do one hundred consecutive push-ups goal, I am going to try this as a way of getting me there.
