and I’ll be back in the states by the spring. I plan on running it in October 2009. Trying to do 20+ miles a week until I get about 6 months out from the race and then start to really kick into the marathon training. Never run more than a half marathon (1hr 48min) so this ought to be a good challenge. I figure being a Marine, and the great scenery of the course, this is the only fitting marathon to run for my first one.
How to run the Marine Corps Marathon
How I did it: My 3rd marathon...but I ran this one with my brother and sister...we watched our dad run the same race 20 years ago. I also overcame a nagging knee injury and getting to the finish was an accomplishment beyond words.
18 weeks of training (visit www.halhigdon.com for training programs), 3 days per week in physical therapy to overcome injury, 26.2 miles of one foot in front of the other.
Lessons & tips: You can do anything you put your mind to.

It was such an exciting, exhausting, painful, emotional, fun, unforgettable experience!!! Every muscle in my body is screaming today but that’s okay because pain is temporary but pride is forever!!!
Trained for it when I was 14, on a dare. Ran a respectable five hour marathon back then. Since, I’ve gotten heavier, slower, and my mile time has fluctuated from under seven minutes to above 13 (keeping in mind, most people can walk a mile in 12.) So I’d like to train, get back in shape (always a goal) and actually run and finish the Marine Corps Marathon. Missed the deadline for the 2007 race which will be run on Oct. 28th, however I am hoping to make it into the 2008 race. Gonna start training now though, registration is in May.

We’re in the final three weeks of training and the mileage is tapering down. I’m starting to get excited…and nervous!

even the “short” runs. I read this is the point at which many runners have to rededicate themselves to the goal and remember that this was a choice. Some days are tougher than others but we’re sticking with the program!

and I can feel a growing sense of awareness that I am really going to do this!!!

We’ve done a great job of sticking to the running schedule. The long runs are really starting to get long now but the fact that my husband is running right along with me makes it so much more bearable. I love that we’re doing this together!
