Like any instrument, it requires practice. But it brings people such joy!

I bought a dulcimer a year ago, and have left it virtually untouched apart from the odd little random plinking I do when I’m trying to hammer out a song I know. But… at the end of this month I’m going to a dulcimer weekend, where I’m hoping to have a real go at playing it, and learn some practical tips and stuff to practice regularly! All I need is the time…
:-)
I took lessons for a few years, but my busy life would not allow me to practice sufficiently between lessons. Actually, if I had just rearranged my priorities, I might still be playing often. I love the sound and it is so soothing to listen to.

When I turned 38 I wound up re-evaluating my life up to that point and one of the things that I was missing was music. I’d always liked the sound of hammered dulcimers, so I rented an instrument, and took some lessons. I subsequently bought an instrument and enjoy playing it, even if I don’t do it enough as I might like.
when I was a kid. It’s fun. I never play anymore, but I’ve been thinking about asking a friend of mine who fiddles if she wants to play with me every week or so . . .
