thank you very mooch 22 months ago

I mooched a few books and got a few books this way. I’ll keep mooching but probably bookcross or sell the unwanted books.

another book on its way 2 years ago

And I finally mooched a few books myself :)

Hoping to get rid of my books 2 years ago

I’m moving in 3 months and I’m hoping to get rid of as many books as I can before I go. Otherwise, I am going to donate them or something. I’m not moving my books with me – I’m leaving them with my parents. I’ll be away for art school for a full year. I have no idea when I’m visiting so it’ll be hard for me to promise to send it then. >_< Boo.

So far I have about 13 books in my inventory. I might add a few more. I was just cleaning out my bookshelf.

first book registered 2 years ago

    The book arrived today.

I might change this goal thought, I don’t really have so many unwanted books, but I enjoy this site and this whole idea very mooch :P
thanks for telling about it :)

Very happy indeed... 2 years ago

with the bookmooching. I’ve mooched a couple of books as well as sent them, and the system works!

another US site, arrrg 2 years ago

singed up, got the idea, found some unwanted books to start play with it. but as usual, this site is not friendly if you’re from a small country, and in this case if you don’t have a local amazon and you use different letter in your language.
and now I got an e-mail saying one of the books I added to my wishlist is suggested by someone, but of course I need 2 points for asking a book from another country, and of course I only have 1.
    I’m not happy.

    Update 2 years ago

What a bunch of nice people!

I was a little intimidated by the speed with which everything seemed to happen on BookMooch.com, but the aftermath of mailing is pretty darn nice. I’ve been getting thank you notes for some of the books I sent!

I’ve also gotten a lot of friendly mentoring along the way by veteran BookMoochers.

A very impressive site. I think I shall be a regular.

    Yikes!!! 2 years ago

OK, I have learned a lot in the last 24 hours.

As soon as you list your books on BookMooch, people who have those books on their “want list” are alerted that the book is available. They then get back to you FAST with a book request, and you are responsible to mail them the book.

I made the mistake of listing a LOT of books right off the bat, and am about to make a totally laughable trip to the post office. I have a little hand truck completely LOADED with packages. All are domestic, but the postage is going to add up.

Now, the idea is that I’ll still spend less mailing these out than I would spend buying the books I will eventually acquire. Also, I know the books are going someplace they are wanted. And I must say, I’ve already made a couple of email friends with interests similar to mine. (Who would have thought that arcane commentaries would be wildly popular???)

Just be warned, if you try it, that you may find yourself scrambling to wrap and mail a bunch of books. List only what you think you can handle, and build up your list gradually!

    Other tips:

    - be sure that your listing is accurate about hardback/paperback issues

    - have a plan about what you will use to wrap those books! (I had a supply of cardboard and those icky plastic bags, so I was ok in that dept.

    - Don’t list a lot of new books when you are very busy!
