    Alaythia is slowly settling in

There was a time... 18 months ago

when I thought I’d never be able to mark this goal as completed. But I’ve made remarkable progress over the last few weeks. I mostly drink tea or water now, both of which are much better for me than the high fructose corn syrup laden Dr Peppers I so love. I haven’t completely given them up—I still drink about one a week, but that’s much better than several of them a day.

    On to other goals!

Its been three whole days since I’ve had a Dr Pepper. Yay me! I’m even past the “I really want to curl up in a hole and die” caffeine withdrawal headache phase. Things are looking up!

"Don't miss it a bit" 2 years ago

Diet soda is completely addictive. I was up to a 6-pack of Diet Pepsi a day (plus coffee and a Monster energy drink). Needless to say, the results were not pretty.

Aspartame (Nutrasweet) is rumored to be linked to high levels of anxiety, which I can personally attest to. The only thing I changed in my diet is cutting out Aspartame, and after a week on the wagon, I feel a lot better.

OK, some may cry “bullshit” and that’s fine. I don’t really care if you drink buckets of soda. Two fist Big Gulps if you like, but I’m just saying I won’t touch the stuff again.

Also, if diet drinks work why are there so many fat people?

Big improvement at the new job 2 years ago

I’ve been doing much better at this goal at my new job. I bought a bottle of water, and I just keep refilling it from the water fountain. I have to walk all the way to the cafeteria for a 20 oz Coke, but there’s a machine with 12 oz cans right in my hallway (by the water fountain). So I’m substituting 20oz for 12oz, and getting a reminder for water while I’m at it.

I’ve also started eating my lunch in small bits throughout the day. Between the water and all-day lunch, I got to 1PM before I even remembered to get my Coke for the day, and I think I really did only get it out of habit.

Going on 11:30 AM and no soda so far. 2 years ago

I don’t think there’s any in the house even, but my wife is out at the store, so I may end up having a soda for lunch. But I’ll drink another glass of water before that.

I've managed to cut back quite a bit. 2 years ago

I’m trying to save soda for one meal a day now. I don’t drink coffee, though, so I’ve really been craving my morning caffeine. I know I don’t really need it, though. If I keep busy enough, I don’t really notice I didn’t have it.

So, drink more water, and keep busy!

I’m not going to mark this one done just yet, though. I don’t feel that I’ve made a real lifestyle change yet. We’ll see what happens when I start up my new job, and make new routines.

So I'm thinking about 2 years ago

making this one of the “challenge goals”. Problem is, I can’t come up with a good consequence if I fail. I need something that will inspire me (or scare me) into staying on track. lol.

I think I have found the cure 2 years ago

for my Coke addiction. It’s called living in the desert! Las Vegas at this time of year has temperatures on average of 105 degrees plus a mere 5% humidity. If I don’t want to shrivel up and die of dehydration I have to nix the Dr. Pepper and replace it with water. Lots and lots of water and Gatorade and then some more water. Drat! I knew it would come down to this…Dr. Pepper or death. lol.

    Alas! 2 years ago

I have no willpower whatsoever. Dr. Pepper is my drug, apparently.

Today I decided 2 years ago

that the only way I’m going to have any success in this at all is to just quit drinking my beloved Dr. Peppers cold turkey. Hopefully this will not be a “for all time” thing, just until I can get my unhealthy addiction to this amber liquid under control. At this point I’m proposing that no Dr. Pepper will pass through my digestive system until June 23rd.

Luckily I did find a nifty, heavily-insulated cup that will keep my water quite frosty for a long time. Here goes nothing!
