I found a link 2 years ago

to this about 2 weeks ago. So I hurried up and knitted a red scarf. It’s done! It’s kind of ordinary, as I’m not the world’s best knitter. But I really am excited to mail it on Monday. I hope it makes it there on time. I was thinking of adding some stamps or other extras to the package.

The scarf is done; I’m not happy with the initial blocking, so I’m going to re-block and steam it, which only takes a few hours to dry. So I will get the scarf in the mail Monday. It shouldn’t take more than three days to arrive in VA, so off it will go to someone special.

The scarf is blocked! It shouldn’t take longer than 24 hours to dry thoroughly because it’s 80 percent acrylic. I’m going to get a large padded envelope and put it, and the few things I’ve brought to tuck in with it, in the post by friday. I still might add a button to one corner, just because I think it’d be nifty and curious, or curiously nifty.

The scarf is finished! I just need to block it now.

The scarf is coming along nicely. I might finish it by next Monday or so. I’m glad to get it done a bit early as I think I’m going to want to block it. The garter stitch border is doing a bit of folding-in and it seems rather stiff. Since it’s an acrylic/wool blend I am going to spritz-block it, with maybe a little cool steam around the edges to set up that garter. I’ve a few other things to go in the package – some pencils, candy, a note pad..odds and ends are always fun.

faux-moebius 2 years ago

the pattern which came with the yarn was one of those faux moebius strip things. I don’t care for that so much, so I’m going to do another easy project with a cable, which I’ve not done before. if i don’t like it when I finish it, I can always whip up one of my famous stockinette/garter stitch combos and send that instead. Do any of you cable without a cable needle?

I’ve purchased some yarn, a washable wool/acrylic blend; it came with a nice pattern as well. Tonight I’m going to sit down and cast on and knit a while, since House is on, and supposedly features the most exciting POTW yet.

For the Red Scarf Project 2 years ago

Since I’m knitting anyway, and I’ve intended to volunteer more, I’m going to do a scarf for this organization. Going to college is a difficult transition, and no one should feel as if they don’t have anyone to turn to in their lives for moral support. Foster care kids do not have easy lives. Even those who end up in good placements with people who love them struggle with a myriad of issues. I have a number of foster/adopted children in my extended family and we deal with the repercussions of their histories, from emotional issues stemming from abuse and neglect, to physical problems which are the result of biological mothers who abused drugs, drank, and generally didn’t get the proper care while pregnant.

If you want to adopt this goal, you can send your scarf along with a note or goodies to:
