I didn’t realize giraffes travel in herds; in morning light, from a distance, their long necks moving in unison looked prehistoric. Up close, they’re just…so…TALL. And they stare back. They’re not afraid but sort of wary. Remarkable.

It would be really strange for me not have seen a giraffe and countless other wild animals in the wild. There is something special about giraffes though. Douglas Livingstone, a South African poet wrote a wonderful poem abut a giraffe. Can’t remember the title, but the opening line was Hail Lofty.
