My cat was fine until I transitioned her onto the amber stage (of the Litter Kwitter system) – at that point she started going in the bath tub! So I’ve reverted back to the red stage for now. Hopefully within a month she’ll be better prepared to do her business through the hole and into the toilet!

so, i’m in greece right now and had to leave my baby at home, but my parents have been sending me lots of photos of him (they actually shaved the poor thing, since i’m not there to brush him.. he looks so silly!)
anyway, one day my mom wrote me an email saying she walked into the bathroom, and lo and behold, there was my cat, perched on the end of it peeing into the toilet!! (of course, he is a boy and didn’t put the toilet seat up and got a little pee on the seat)
we haven’t even attempted to teach him how to do this, so i have no idea how he got the idea.. the only thing i can think of is that he follows me into the bathroom so much he just kind of caught up on it.
so, when i get back, i’m going to try to pursue this endeavour more vigoriously :)
Super dead in this forum lately.
Anyways, Charlie has been doing well EXCEPT, he had his first accidents. It’s my fault, really. I soak my feet pretty often, as I’m on my feet all day at work. So I have this basin that I sometimes forget on the bathroom counter. Usually it’s just overnight… Well one day Charlie decided that the shape is close enough to his old box, and guess what he did at 4:00 AM? It was just #1, though. He then ran to the toilet to go #2. I forgot it again a couple days later and he did it again. He’s training ME to be less forgetful, I guess.
Cats are so smart. And they love us so much. I’ve always just let them do whatever they want, now that I’m potty training them I’m learning that they will and can do just about anything I request.
I want to hurry them so we can be done with the litter. Yucky stuff.
Anyway, so far so good. The litter box is level with the toilet.
So things were going well, but then Charlie got into the garage. I didn’t think anything of it but… He discovered his old litter box. Noooo. Now he knows it’s in there and holds his #2s and yowls at the top of his lungs to get in. I feel so bad, but then I remember that I’ve had no trouble until this, and that once he forgets about the garage litter box he’ll go back to using the toilet contentedly. I hope.
At this point the hole is about 4”. I’m afraid to enlarge it any more until he’s comfortable.
I went away for another over night and ever since I have not been able to get her back on track. I am using a small plastic storage container beside the toilet for a litter box. I will soon be moving in with a roommate who also has a cat and I don’t think starting training again right now will work. I really want to do this, but it may be smart to wait until I have a house of my own and a free bathroom.
So I cut out the part that Charlie was going #1 on. Annnnd he started going #1 straight in the toilet! Still straddling the hole, with two feet out, two feet in, but I still think it’s awesome. And now all I have to do is flush! Even if I’m stuck at this point for a while I’m totally fine with it. Already way less work than cleaning his box. No litter tracked everywhere, either.
I was out of town this last weekend. Luckily I bothered my mom into cat sitting, so we have had no relapses! Tomorrow I’m going to enlarge the hole to about 4”. I want to wait until he’s all settled down. He tried to go in a potted plant before I left, so I’m being careful.
So I just started training my cat this week and everything’s going great so far! I’ve moved Ozzie’s litterbox into the bathroom and I’ve already raised it several inches off the ground.
Maybe I’m being a bit too optimistic but I don’t think the whole process is going to be THAT hard. He’s a pretty smart cat and already gets what the toilet’s for. In fact, after I use the restroom and flush he’ll come in, stand on the seat, and scratch to cover the water!
The only thing that I’m really concerned about is his balance. He’s a bit bottom heavy and I’m afraid he’ll just tip backwards into the toilet when he tries to go. lol
Frustrating. She is still going on my floor. Only a couple of days has she used the toilet with the 4” hole for #2. She always does #1 in the toilet, but #2 is still a 50/50 chance. She even went on the mat I have under the toilet, which she never does because its “her” mat. She usually goes on the tile floor next to the toilet. I am also worried that since my next roomate might have a cat any training I do will be undone the second we move and she finds a litter box.

Claudia asks,
“Cats are using the toilet to pee, but not for "number 2"! I am running out of patience, since they both (2 boys) do exactly this: use the toilet for one and floor in the bathroom for the other. I do not understand how they separate this so carefully LOL..”
