now that we are full swing into winter.. I couldn’t pull it off. Also with hopefully building nect spring I will need power.. so this will be a ways off:( BUT I WILL BE BACK!
How I did it: The first time, I was a teenager and moved onto this old farm that didn't have electricity or running water.
Last year, though, we chose to have our power turned off for the summer. It was great. Other than the washing of laundry, it wasn't hard to live without.
Lessons & tips: You'll need a way to haul in water if you don't have running water, and you'll want to set up beforehand if possible with the tools to do things like laundry.
Resources: scrub board, lamp oil, clotheslines.

just drives me nuts that I haven’t been able to and I refuse to give up on this goal! I have to do it between the equinox’s because of our short warm season here. If I was down south.. wouldn’t be an issue. damn short seasons!

I deceided that last spring equinox was the date.. but things just didn’t work out as planned.. I need more solar power to make it work from there- with having no power to heat the chicken coops that time of the year and whatnot going without power won’t work:( Specially if I am not home to make adjustments for other things.. I am really gonna have to re-think my plan of attack!
Though living in a 14 foot camper for 2 months with no power was pretty cool this past summer while I was learning to build eco-homes. I know I can do it. I just have to re-plan!

PERIOD! I don’t care who comes over or who finds it inconvenient.. they can suck it up.. I want this goal accomplished!I know I can do it and I can’t wait till winter is over so I can!
TynessElf I really hope to make more progress on some of these goals
well this has not transpired as I had hoped so far. life has had us quite busy and left little time to rig ourselves up for no power. We are experimenting with solar power to determine what it will permit us to do.
We also spend 4-5 out of 7 nights out at our cabin one the property

very close to not having power a couple weeks back…. then the company started showing up. Then I started plugging lamps back in… then screwing bulbs back in..etc, etc…. I didn’t realize how inconveniant it would be for company to come to a house that they aren’t familiar in and have them not be able to see too well sometimes! But I have dedided I can’t be worrying about company – this is my house my goal and if I keep worrying about other people it will never get done!

Why does life have to be so busy? Well the parts I don’t care to be busy rather? Beltaine is nearly here- WAY off of doing our plans for no power. Every weekend something else comes up and I can’t get it together enough to get it done! This weekend is a bust as we were busy and today (sunday) I have to go to town all day and drop my daughter off for her trip to P.G. then shop for the resturant. Next weekend it is a long promised visit with a friend I haven’t visited with in a long time, then our annual maypole dance at Matta Marga (which is a choice to go and one I won’t give up!maybe the weekend after that??sigh Yes I am having my own pity party today- so much to do, so little time. I would love to have time for all the things I want to do and not HAVE to do. Though don’t get my wrong- I am greatful that I have the ability to do any of these things, I am blessed in my life.

ok, we missed the equinox for turning off the power:( Here is is April 1st and I am really bummed about it. We would up going to edmonton that weekend to pick up our daughter from her trip to Spain and we weren’t at all prepared. we don’t have a new day set yet, but it will be soon! I have some to realize that we simply cannot go without all power so we have decided to go without lights. Fridge is still needed, and my woodcook stove that I thought I had gotton hasn’t come through and then there is laundry… still -20 outside and too cold for clotheslines. It will work out!
TynessElf I really hope to make more progress on some of these goals
spring to fall equinox no power – well almost no power we will let the power in for the fridge and feezer and long enough to charge the battery for our computers so we can check our mail and pay our bills. I think the kids will love no TV.
I could see possilby negotiating for one night or so a month to have loud tunes and some fun dancing – perhaps. Dance is an awful lot of fun and great exercise. Or we can use Batteries.
