I completed my first triathlon two days ago – an olympic distance. Next year I’d like to try the half-Ironman.

if my friend didn’t sign me up! but she was also my workout partner and we spent a few months together training. our lives pretty much revolved around training, so we kept each other on track.
it was also my first triathlon, and my first open water swim, so i had a lot of big accomplishments that day.
I’m becoming very good at hurting myself. I did a 10 mile run on Wednesday and then was going to try for a 12 mile run today. I bought new running shoes, but decided not to break them in on a 12 mile run. I don’t know if it was the old shoes or what, but my right knee was hurting and it scared me from going more than 2 miles. It has never hurt before. So ice and Advil and I’ll try it again on Monday.
I rode the half Ironman bike route last Sunday and I plan on riding it again tomorrow. After that I will start tapering my biking and running and I’ll hit the swimming hard because the pool I go to opens again on Monday. I’ve taken too much time off of swimming.
I still don’t feel ready for the race, but I’ll power through it. 2 weeks from tomorrow.
2 weeks ago I was freaked out by the idea of swimming 1.2 miles. Today, I swam 1500 meters without stopping to do more than turn around in the pool, and I could have kept going but the pool closed and I had to get out. I did it all front crawl too. It felt amazing. I have found my stride in the water. I have absolutely no doubt that I will be able to do the 1.2 mile swim with no problem in the half Ironman in August. Hell, the 500 meters of a sprint triathlon sounds easy now.
It is weird that I started as a runner, began swimming about 4 months ago, and now swimming is my strongest event and running is my worst. Focusing a lot on swim technique from the beginning, and my running injury didn’t help anything, but yeah.
Now I’m going to set my sights on that 2.4 mile swim barrier. Ironman, you are going down in 16 months.
I think I am addicted to triathlons. I did one race, and now I’m registered for 3 more, one every month. I have another sprint triathlon in 2 weeks, then it is all training for the Half Ironman in August. A week or two after that I have another sprint to finish out the season.
Then I set my sights on the big one: Ironman Florida.
ahhh! Only about 2.5 Weeks to go, and to be honest I am in the best shape of my life!
But I am also sick! Yuck! – I hope I get better soon!
I just registered for the Pigman Half Ironman in August. It is in the same area of Iowa as the sprint tri I raced last week. I’m excited but nervous. This is going to hurt, lots.
I registered in the great white north half ironman in stony plain in July. I think this should give me plenty of time to train although I am nervous:)
