I just couldn’t get into the habit of taking the bags with me when I left the car. I wouldn’t realize I was bagless until I was in the checkout line… Eventually, I got it! ;-)

How I did it: I bought a ripstop nylon bag that folded up into the size of my fist that I carry everywhere with me. Even if I forget it, I just put what I can in my purse and carry the rest - I never accept a bag anymore. Telling the cashiers and baggers that I don't need any plastic bags is integrated into my system.I am also less likely to buy food if it is covered in plastic wrap or in plastic containers. Fresh is best. Read how I did it…

I ended up using a lot of plastic bags on Tuesday – I went shopping for things for the house, since after my roommates left the place was empty. I actually felt a bit guilty about it!
Anyway, I think I’ll mark this as done. Despite a few exceptions, I’ve been sticking to reusable bags all summer, and plan to keep doing it.
I’ve got three bags and I keep them in the front seat of my car. Whenever I remember to use them, nearly all of my groceries fit in there (I’m shopping for a family of four). I’m not sure what to do about the produce bags… But we end up using them for dog poop bags, so I suppose we’re re-using them… Is there a more environmentally sound way to handle the poop bag?

I used a couple of plastic bags for dirty laundry over my vacation, but didn’t accumulate any from shopping.

Bought two new ones yesterday at the grocery store. I think I might start collecting them from different stores to see which one has the best bags.

I bought a new grocery bag to replace the one I busted. I tried repairing it, but the thread wouldn’t hold to the material. I intend to buy a few more so I don’t have to overfill them and risk another break.

I can’t believe how much my little reusable bag holds! I got a whole basket of groceries in it.
Only problem left that is still a problem – the fruit and veggie bags. Either I can sew my own (which would be weird…imagine showing up with broccoli in a bag I’ve sewn from my old jeans…), or I can buy some from that bag place online. They’re like $3 each, though. I’m in a bit of money trouble right now. If I could find some cotton or burlap and make my own, that’d be great.

This is easy and a no-brainer at Aldi and my usual supermarket because they’re both self-bag. And at the health food store. But WalMart is going to be hard since they start bagging before you get all your stuff put on the belt and they’re not set up for you to bag your own. No space. We’ll see.

I got one big black lightweight yet strong bag for groceries. I’ve used it and declined plastic bags on all other occasions.
Now, the only thing left to do it get little organic cotton bags for fruits and vegetables so I don’t have to use those little plastic ones every time.

I shop at bag your own places such as Aldi and so this has been easy. Plus the bags hold a lot more and area easier to carry than plastic bags. Now if I can just make it happen at WM. Honestly, it makes me even less eager to shop there.
