irieman is taking it one day at a time.
This goal is unfortunately phrased in such a way, that it is basically impossible to say “I’ve done this”. I mean, I’ve managed to lose 15 pounds through lots of running, watching what I eat obsessively, and going to the gym regularly.
However, I also know from personal experience that all it takes is two days of “falling off”- for my weight to shoot back up. This is usually when I freak out and get back on track. I’d hate to see what would happen if I slipped for an entire month.
So, as they say, it’s not a “diet”, its a “lifestyle change”. Despite all the false advertising, most people can’t lose the weight and go back to our previous lifestyle and expect the weight to stay off.

Well, I just turned 35, and I fear that the extra weight I’m carrying could have long term negative consequences if I don’t start to do something. I am basically about 15 lbs overweight, like a lot of people. Anyone out there have advice or thoughts?

i’ve since joined Weight Watchers and it has been working very well for me. I think my mind works very well with the points system. I know some people don’t like the counting cause it makes the obsessed with food but I think that just must be how my mind works. Also, I gained some weight since I first made this thing to do, so I now wish to lose 25 lbs instead of 15.

I was so busy this past summer that I didn’t have time to eat… after running around all day and just eating cereal bars (meaning only getting 420 calories a day) for a few days a week I caved in a got some slimfast (at least i could get vitamins and minerals if I was going ot eat so little!) I lost 25 pounds total but gained 5 back when I started eating normally again (moved away so I only work 30 hours a week vs. the 46 with lots of church activities)... I’m happy and much healthier, not happy about how i lost the weight but… LOL at least it’s stayed off even when I started eating normal again! :)

I’ve been on Birth Control for the last 3 years and I’ve gained 20 lbs while on it. I have worked out like a dog and dieted really healthy all summer and nothing worked. I’m pretty sure it’s the birth control keeping me in a “pregnant state”. So I’ve stopped my pills now for the next 3 months to see if that helps at all.

I’ve gone from a size 16 to 10 over the last year. I think the trick is to keepat it, don’t throw your hard work away fo a take away meal or a couple of drinks.
For me I changed my whole eating habits and my lifestyle and I feel great !!!!

I had some help from a dental infection that kept me from eating for a week. But all told I’ve lost 25 lbs from my top weight of 165 two years ago.
I think the “secret” to it is to get your mind off food. I used to spend a lot of time thinking about what I’d eat next, now I try to do soemthing else.
And lifting weights is good too.
