I think I have pretty much given up on the idea of being able to do this myself. I saw at Walgreen’s that they will transfer for you for about $25 a tape. I am thinking that starting in January, I will try to do one tape a month. That wouldn’t be to great an expense and will be totally worth it someday because I will have preserved my precious memories.
How to transfer vhs home movies to dvd
How I did it: First of all I had 8mm movies transferred not VCR, which made this project even more special. These were really old movies, my mom is pg with me!!
Anyway I took these movies to Walgreens where they sent them out to be transferred to DVD's.. It was so worth the expense to look back and see my parents when they were young. My sister when she was a little and me as a baby! Didn't know I had such big ears!!
Lessons & tips: I learned that you can go back and keep the family memories alive. In addition, I learned that you can't just talk about doing it you have to make yourself. You will be glad you did the rewards were great.
Resources: Again Walgreens provided a great service to transfer these old movies.

I am going to try to get moving on this goal after spring break. I am going to take my dvd recorder to school and have my tech guy help me learn how to use it. I bought the blank dvds a long time ago, but I couldn’t figure out how to work the darn thing.
I’ve got this really cool deal that I bought at Costco to do it…but I am tech-challenged and can’t even open the box!

This use to be one of my goals but I deleted it because I thought I was nuts. So thank you for reminding me that I am not crazy!! I have started a business making movies for people from their pictures and I thought this would be a wonderful thing to add to it. VHS will soon be a thing of the past.!
I am excited to see we have the same goal!
