The final performance was this evening. It was a thrill from stem to stern. Mostly, though, my turn on stage was a complete triumph for me. It felt so good and real and natural, you know? The time flew as I told the story, and I had the “eating from the palm of my hand” so to speak. I’m so glad it went well; have a great deal of gratitude to my God for bring me up to it and through it so smoothly. I handed out a ton of business cards and several people asked why I had no CD. go figure. Might have to make one. P’raps another goal…
All due praise to God; and now I’m gonna go sleep until I wake up.

Last night was the special Fundraiser Dinner Party with all the Featured Tellers doing a short, short bit for the folks who donated a significant amount.
Inasmuch as I was one of those who did so, having been engaged since October as a Featured Teller, and received applause from the audience last night, I hereby state that this goal is complete.
This Saturday night is the performance that I will most remember. I really want to stick the landing on that one, to be sure. Stay tuned for results… 3 years ago

Say, if you’re by a radio tomorrow morning or evening, you’ve got a chance to hear me prattle on about the lies my sister used to feed me. I’m gonna be on Cityscape on 90.7 KWMU at 11:00am and again that night at 10:00pm. It’s not a long story (about 6 minutes) and not the kind of stuff I usually do, or will do at the festival, but it’s my foray into St. Louis radio such as it is.

more self-publicity… makes me nervous…
“Ken Wolfe has long been telling tales, fake realities, and outright prevarications to his semi-captive audiences. At his fingertips, Wolfe’s outlandishly whimsical narratives, peppered with sound effects and almost-accurate dialects, have amused his Middle School scholars by the thousands for nearly seventeen generations of graduates.
Likewise, Wolfe has enjoyed invitations to perform his narrative lies for both the gullible and the skeptical in their museums, camps, churches, cemeteries, caves, places of business and lovely homes. Wolfe’s joy in sanctioned deceit has driven him to indoctrinate and train the next wave of fabulists in storytelling classes at the Pierre Laclede Honors College at the University of Missouri, St. Louis.
All his stories are completely true, by the way; at least as far as you know. Honest.” 4 years ago

that was an interesting process. I’m not used to someone taking pictures of me, solely. My friend Tim and I went to a Museum of Transport near here and got some good ones, I think. I had to turn in three distinct ones. Here’s one of them. Going for the swindler/medicine show/snake oil salesman/canival barker kind of feel. that’s my general persona onstage. 4 years ago

Well, I got the call from Lynn with the invitation to be a Featured Teller this year! I had been hoping and now it’s for sure. I’ll be up on the Touhill Performing Arts Center stage with the other, nationally-known tellers the first weekend this May. Now comes all the stuff: stories, photos, bios, etc. to get me ready and marketable.
Phew! I’m really, really gonna stick the landing on this one.

I’ve written and developed a story especially for the possibility of being a Featured Teller one day. It’s got to have some polish, true enough, but it’s just the kind of story with humor, pathos, sensitivity, and good wraparound closure that will play well. We’ll see how long I have to tell and hone. 4 years ago

but I’ve always been engaged as a regional teller (http://www.umsl.edu/~conted/storyfes/storytellers_regional.html) (scroll down to the end if you wanna see my little blurb). Now, to be considered “big time” enough to be “featured” I’m going to have to invest a great many more gigs than I currently can do with my teaching full time, both at Brentwood and UMSL (University of Missouri, St. Louis). I’ve only ever done this festival, otherwise it’s churches, schools, camps, corporate stuff and where/whenever else I can stand up and be paid to tell creative lies. So, it’ll be a while, no doubt, but I’m patient. One day, I’ll be checking off this goal, posting pics and a scanned brochure to prove my “featuredness.” Here’s to patient alternative career goals! 5 years ago
