You know, I just think this is something wonderful the girls and I could do together. The rewards would go far beyond the fruit the plants yield … of this I’m very sure.

One of my strawberry plants has its first flower on it!
While its very small as a plant, it means strawberries are on their way!

This past weekend I checked on some runners from my Mother’s plants that she said I could plant at my house & that would then grow as new plants successfully. I put then into pots a few months ago & wasn’t sure how they’d do but after taking a look I can see that at least two plants have survived.
I should get some more plants & plant them all out into the ground. Yum!
I sooooo want to do this! Does anybody know what kind i should grow? I live in California, so its pretty hot here. But its September, so when do i need to plant them? The spring? I will be doing some research, but if anyone has any advice i would sure appreciate it! Thnx
Well our first rash of strawberries has ended… we got about thirty berries out of our little pot. The plants seem to be taking a breather and growing out some extra leaves now, hopefully in preparation for a future crop. (Our plants our everbearing, so there should be more coming.) Growing strawberries is easy and satisfying. Highly recommended!

and this is a picture of the first ripe one, it was really sweet too

I ate our first homegrown strawberry yesterday. It was tiny, bright red, and just delicious.
Well this year we started a strawberry pot with seven plants. One of them has died (sad – I’ll probably replace it soon) but the other six are really thriving – lots of tiny green berries and flowers and big leaves. We got everbearing plants, so they should bloom throughout much of the summer. I hope this works out!
