I’m excited, chess always looks so interesting.
How I did it: well when i was young my mom used to take us to visit one of her friends house who had a chess set, set up in her house and she taught me and sister and brother all how to play, then we actually liked it at the time then my mom enrolled us in chess lessons, and me and my sister were the only girls actually in the lessons and it was so embarassing lol
Lessons & tips: don't play it against people who are dramatically better than u because it gets very frustrating and ruined the game for me
Resources: chess set, a patient teacher

ChrisLedwidge is sorting myself out.
I used to play chess alot. Like lots of things I used to be ok at it. I played a good bit at school.
So I’d like to learn to play again.
Chess is somewhat of a minor obsession of mine. Our chess club is fanatically regular and I’ve gone to the stage of playing once a week to chess being the highlight of my otherwise plain existence during school hours.
The fun aspect… it’s always hard to say whether it is fun.
It used to be fun just because you were playing a game, but now I think the fun lies in that your brain is sorting out the strategies and the different possibilities.
There is no rational reason why I treat the game so mentally vigorously, though there’s a pleasure when you know the moves that you are making work, and there’s a pleasure in understanding what you’re doing and not moving randomly.
I’m still not that good, but I feel chess is a part of me… I feel an emotional connection to my queen…

i’ve worked it out quite a bit now. need to build up strategy now. thinking ahead is very very difficult, so many combinations of moves!!!
My dad taught me Chess when i was very little. I really like to play but since a few years it got boring (cause i kept winning;) – now i will either join a chessclub or go to a ChesscafĂ© on a regular basis to meet better players…
it’s not a very complicated game, despite what people say.
(I’m not denying that there are depths, but the rules aren’t that complicated.)
It can be fun, but it can become an obsession as well – a waste of time, if you will. It certainly was for me at some times.
Now I’m wasting time with other games instead. Maybe I can find a way to play games AND work towards the goals that I’ve avoided while playing games…?
(If you’re looking for a good place to play chess free on the internet, try FICS – stands for FREE INTERNET CHESS SERVER.)
Well, I played chess and won 3 times in a row. But then I played some poker and lost all my chips :( You win some, you lose some.
Played until I beat my teacher then stopped, I went back to wild play, confused him and won a fluke :) but it was a win
chess is amazing. especially if, like me, you are intelligent enough to see the little patterns but utterly fail at seeing hte big picture. then it becomes just fun, instead of too much strategizing.
