Dr. King's Legacy 17 months ago

Historians fear MLK’s legacy being lost

Perhaps not lost, but surely oversimplified and sanitized by many.

Thank you for the invite and the reminder... 2 years ago

...I found myself, throughout the day, realizing that much of the work I was engaged in was about change.

He had a dream and so do I!

Thank you for letting me be a part,

James

Worth doing, absolutely. 2 years ago

It’s been good to read all the entries and know that there are so many people around who believe in the dream. Thanks, all.

Definitely worth it! Need to do this more than just one day a year!

Had a talk with my three year old 2 years ago

She wanted to know why she didn’t have school today and what kind of holiday it was. And oh boy, how do you even begin? So my husband and I tried to break it down to what she could understand. We talked about how Dr. King wanted people to treat each other better and how he didn’t believe in fighting and hitting, but in talking when we have a problem. (I was having a hard time trying to figure out how to explain civil disobedience to a preschooler.) And briefly we talked about how children at her school have all different skin colors and how they’re all beautiful. But then I had this tiny little uh-oh feeling, like maybe I shouldn’t even have pointed it out, because maybe she’d never noticed before. I wish I could have been better prepared, but she blindsided me with the question and that’s the best I could do on the spot. Thank you, everyone, for your posts today!
