Eugene, Oregon. What a nice place. I found it totally liveable. There were so many things I liked about it, but particularly all the trees and farms and nice weather and friendly people. My kind of city!

We definitely have all 4 seasons where I’m from. Actually, my region is known for it’s beautiful fall colors, and our 250+ annual inches of snowfall.
Summer can be scorching hot or mild, and spring is just, well…muddy. I prefer the summer and winter. There’s so many sports you can do in those seasons, but spring and fall you cannot really do any of them.
One of my goals was to move to a warmer climate. I accomplished this goal in the 90’s but discovered I was a New England gal at heart. One of the things I missed about New England was the change of seasons.
admiring the snow on the way back to the airport to go home, I thought about how many cheers I’ve gotten on this goal, and had a revelation. There are probably a lot of people who wish to move to a place with 2 warmer seasons, instead of two cooler.
Then, I was thinking about it again when I was in Salem, Massachusetts, standing on the Friendship (a replica of a boat from the 18th century). They said the average trip around the world then was 26 months. It was about 30 degrees on board while we were there. Sailors would have had no source of heating on that boat, as the only flame was on deck, for cooking. Their quarters would have been freezing. As much as I like to think I could handle the cold better than the hot summers here in Az, I think living in those conditions must have been hell, and don’t know how they did it.
I’ll be in Massachusetts, visiting a friend. She told me the other day it was 7 degrees there. It’s like 60 degrees here. Yikes. I am going to freeze. I feel more of a chicken about cold weather this year than usual. I always forget (because it doesn’t get that cold here for very long) how much my foot hurts when it’s cold. I think it’s diabetic neuropathy – my foot starts falling asleep at the toes and I get sharp pain on the top when it’s cold outside, and it doesn’t go away until I warm up. I don’t really know what I’d do about that if I lived somewhere with winter for months. But I guess I can talk to my doctor about it when I get back from my trip. Anyway, I think this trip will be good for me to see what it’s like to be in freezing snowing weather, if even for just a few days.
we do have all 4 but that’s not always a good thing, rain, too much it floods the streets, snow, no one has heard of plows, summers blah, spring is the only time I truly enjoy.warm green smells earthy new, some rain yes, I hate the snow, driving in it sucks people don’t know how to drive, either they’re too fast, too slow. they summers are just full of dry stuffing sinuses.
so I don’t like living here.
Part of our reason for going to Oregon this summer is to explore the state as a possible place for relocation. So planning that trip is going to kill many birds with one stone.
