I went to Japan for two weeks in the summer of 2008. it was wonderful. I saw so much of a beautiful nation and wish to explore more of it.

Sometimes I miss Japan so bad.
It feels like I’ve been there yesterday, and if I stand up now I’ll dress in my schooluniform, go to school, meet my friends, eat yakisoba, go shopping in mycal, watch “gakkou he ikkou” and so on.
I want to go back.
Now I’m thinking about going there for three months when I’ve finished school, before I start university, next year.
But it will be very expensive. And I don’t know what exactly I can do there. A lnguage course?

I’ve had an odd relationship with Japan since I was 14…

Anime…

A girlfriend…

Three months there…

Don’t watch anime, broke up with the girl years ago, but I cant get Japan out of my mind, I miss Tokyo’s urban sprawl (and I’m a country lad!, a willing one!) I miss the mish-mash of light and noise, I miss seeing Fuji with my own two peepers, I miss the vertical nature of the country, I miss the 7/11’s and other staples of Japanese retail every other corner, I miss that “rural” shrine in the “country” (where there’s still enough houses to warrent an urban label anywhere else) and most of all I miss real Yakisoba and Japanese rice.

Sigh

Maybe I’ll go for a short break, and go up the Tokyo tower again and see the city at sunset again…

Sooner than expected 12 months ago

there was plane tickets for a really good price, so I’m going with two friends these Christmas.

I’ll be there from 28th December to 11th January. Not that much but I got to do that “have good grades” one ;D

Well 14 months ago

I was born in Misawa, Japan. I actually lived in Okinawa for the first 6 years of my life and although I don’t remember EVERYTHING I do remember alot and I loved it. That and I love the history that is with the country. The place is beautiful and I would LOVE to either go back and visit for awhile or even live there again.

I want to go back to Japan, but this time I want some Western friends to travel with me or meet me there, because it gets really lonely after a few days!

By now… this one is linked with my “get a scholarship” one. I hope I’m able to go back next year <3 and that I won't have to leave in 3 years!

So, so happy I went back! 22 months ago

After four years I wasn’t sure what to expect from my trip to Japan: would it make me feel sad and just miss it more? would my friends remember me or care that I was there? It’s not like we kept in touch very well by email. Would I remember how to get around and where things were? Well it was all great. I loved being there, my Japanese started coming back after only a day or two, and I saw so many wonderful friends that I missed. One of my ex-students has met the girl he wants to marry, another few friends have had kids since I left. A couple of bands I really like had broken up, but I saw three I like and it was awesome to see them live after so long. I also finally got to visit the Budokan, something that would have been on my list of 43 things when I was 15, if 43 things had been around then. Going back to somewhere you lived and loved is a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it.

Japan is awesome 2 years ago

so I was an exchange student in Japan this summer and it was awesome, and amazing, and I love the people (especially my host family), and the food, and it was so awesome!

Well, it's kind of home. 2 years ago

I ended up going back to Japan with my new husband in August of last year on the JET Program…it’s been one heck of a trip. Sometimes I’ve hated it and wanted to break contract and just jump on the first plane home, more of the time I’ve loved it, most of the time…it’s just another home, plain and simple. I’m getting better at the language, I’ve got a Japanese driver’s license now, things are looking up. I’m going to have culture shock so badly when I get back to the US.
