Third year running 2 years ago

The first year we went was crowded (thanks to a hurricane), the second year stifling hot and dusty, and this year we almost didn’t go, but the call of the music was too great. So we took off a little early to go kayaking on the lake – we could still hear the music. Every year, the festival planners figure out something else that they can do, and it just keeps getting better.

'05 and '06 3 years ago

Were the most amazing years of my life musically. Such fantastic lineups. The burn is worth it, and so is the expensive water.

This year: (Day one) Ted Leo and the Pharmastists (front row), Stars (front row), Wolf Parade (caught the end of it), Gnarls Barkley. (Day two) Ben Kweller (front row), The Shins (front row), Explosions in the Sky (front row). (Day three) Matisyahu (front row), The Flaming Lips (front row…changed my life), Tom Petty (front row). Besides the fact that Tom Petty got rained out and I left and then he came back after I left…ACL was incredible.

hot n sweaty, but worth going at least once 3 years ago

artist lineup wasn’t as good as last year but you owe it to yourself to go to ACL at least once in your life

Last night 3 years ago

I watched Ben Folds and Ray LaMontagne perform. Ray’s performance in particular moved me. He closed his set with a song of his I’d never heard before, “Heaven Is A Honky Tonk”. It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. Lyrics are posted on my blog.

And by that I mean 3 years ago

Let me clear this one up. I used to watch it on TV back when I was younger, and had a “normal” work schedule. Even watched one really great show with my Dad where Steve Earle performed.

I plan to see it live. Even if it means flying there days in advance, I’ll do it.

I’ll be keeping a watchful eye on their Web site to find out who is going to be performing in the next several months. It’s just the kind of excuse I need to take a trip out of town.

So much fun! 3 years ago

i went this past year and had such an incredible time! it was fun to see so many people with the same musical interests all gathered together. i’m so happy to have seen coldplay!
