Restore my car

Untitled 6 months ago

I bought my Dodge Aspen a year and a half ago and I need to get to work on it. Its needs a paint job, or at least primer before the surface rust turns into a problem. It needs new window seals, and seat covers (I would like a pair of bucket seats to replace the bench)and some nice rims and tires (mags maybe?)

So far I have got new parts, shocks calipers and a grill, next I need to install them.

Plan 8 months ago

I own a 1968 Plymouth Sport Fury that I bought when I graduated high school. Its been sitting in storage ever since but that hasnt kept me from designing how I want to customize and rebuild it. Some day I want to have the money and the know how to make this dream a reality. It will be a ways down the road, but someday it will happen.

back in the shop 10 months ago

So the car has been in the shop twice since picking it up from the head gasket repair. Once for an ignition problem and now for a leaky coolant hose. I believe it is the same hose that caused the blown head gasket to begin with. le suck. I’m hoping that will really be it for a while. I need a few things for it but it should be running well (in theory) after this last stint there. We shall see.

She's my baby... 13 months ago

I wish I could say that I have a cool car to “restore” but I actually just want to fix up my 2000 GT Mustang. I bought her four years ago and have systematically driven her into the ground. And I’m still paying on her! I’d like to pay her off and then invest some money into making her gorgeous again. The whole thing needs to be repainted. There’s a dent in the front passenger quarter panel where my brother backed into her and the paint on the custom hood is actually chipping off.

I feel kind of dorky about this. I come from a car family. My parents own three ‘67 Mustangs, a ‘53 Chevy pickup, and a ‘37 Chevy sedan. My fiance has a ‘78 Firbird and a ‘56 Cady. Surely my newish car isn’t cool enough! But, I do so love her. :)

So I may actually finally be ready for paint and body. Amazing. After 6 months parked in the drive my car came back from the shop yesterday running better then ever. :D

Time to start looking around for paint quotes and what not.

83 Trans Am that I fell in Love with. 20 months ago

I knew from the very day I was a small child watching the original Knight Rider show… that, a Black Third Gen Trans Am was the car I wanted. My dad, for the longest time, only owned a little Subaru POS that was barely functional, and a Suburban. The Subaru was eventually replaced with a Jimmy, then a Blazer, and then an Envoy. I was also very bored with being the “tool lackey” when he’d do routine maintenance… so I was never really excited about cars. It wasn’t fun. He never figured I was really into cars. Truth is, I was…

Finally at Age 27, I got my dream car. An 83 Trans Am, Black with Gold Trim. The price was decent, but I soon learned all the things that were wrong with it. It has since become a project, and I’ve fallen in love with restoring her. And of course Driving her. I had no idea that owning a piece of machinery like this could bring so much joy. If goes for Transmission work tonight… I’m looking forward to another summer of – hopefully – many.

I’m slowly writing a list of things I want to do. Got to get her mechanically sound first. After the transmission… custom exhaust is next :)

I also want to learn how to weld and do body work.
