Several months ago, I enrolled in an ‘Introduction to Psychology’ correspondence course at Cengage, formerly Thomson Education Direct.
Once I successfully complete the course, I will be presented with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the module ‘Introduction to Psychology’ so I hope I can finish this course, if not for an award, then for myself! Unfortunately, I still have many chapters to cover and the end is not in sight. It’s a rather grueling experience reading all the articles and texts and there are numerous written assessments I have to submit…I’ll do my best.
Although I have no intention of studying Psychology in the future (my heart lies in other branches of health science), I find the subject fascinating and it’d be great to use my spare time productively and expand my knowledge on topics I’m not familiar with. At the risk of sounding platitudinous, knowledge is power!

If you are taking a psych class out of interest its a great idea to do so. It is very interesting to watch how theories exist in your world today, and a little creepy too. I love it, that’s why I’m a psych major!

the Psychology 101 I took almost 30 years ago was ridiculous. The professor had two problems: 1. He would have preferred to be teaching neurophysiology to graduate students, based on his lectures and 2. He didn’t like straight men (or this straight man, anyway). the more advanced level “The Psychology of Henry James,” which was split between the Psychology and English departments, I took a few years later was much more interesting, although the psychology professor taking part in it wanted to have some MUCH more involved discussions about a dream I had written about during class. He thought it had deep psychological roots, but I suspect the 104 + degree fever I had at the time of the dream had more influence than any feelings of futility or stress. I really wasn’t particularly stressed THEN!

I took a psyc course in my first year, it may be boring at times, but the informations you get from it is amazing!! I now am able to understand how people think, and it has allowed me to read people better! Psyc Classes are like Mind Reading Classes

That’s not just a lame made up class, I actually took it and passed. As you’d imagine, it’s very popular because of its name, but it was a fascinating look at things like brain chemistry, sexual habits of the disabled, sexual imagery and stereotypes. It was amazing and a real eye-opener, but it didn’t go far enough for me. Wish I could afford to waste more credits on psych courses!
