I’m signing the lease this coming Monday and have started picking out furniture from craigslist and thrift stores. Buying new goes against my newfound green living and desire to avoid taxation.

How I did it: I was living in Korea at the time of my move, so I used word of mouth to find out about an apartment building that was willing to rent to foreigners. After that, I asked my Korean friend to help me converse with the landlord and he greatly reduced my deposit fee (which in Korea is typically about $10,000--crazy, I know). And then....I moved in. |

I just moved to a great new apartment in Salem, MA. I am so excited because I just love it! It is right downtown in the historic district so it is very cool. The house was built in the mid 1600’s!
I can walk everywhere too which makes it super convenient. The grocery store, library, restaurants etc.. are all within walking distance. Plus it is a two minute walk to the train station so getting to Boston is a snap. Hopefully this will inspire me to use my car less.
It is also a very quiet building, which is great. I know what it is like to be woken up night after night by screaming, fighting neighbors so I REALLY appreciate the quiet.
All in all this new place is really working out for me and it was well worth the wait.

I found a new apartment….across the country! I moved to San Francisco and live 12 blocks from the beach. And by the beach I mean the end of the continent. How cool is that? And by place is gorgeous. And so huge. And my roommate is great. And I love my neighborhood.

The apartment has been paid for, the lease has been signed and (even though we won’t actually move until Tuesday) I even carried the first box just so I really felt like the place was mine. It’s going to be great to be out of the asbestos house.

The problem with my current apartment was that with three bedrooms, two stories, and only two residents it was too big and fairly crappy. I looked at three apartments yesterday. The third was a cute little one bedroom (800 square feet) that would be just about perfect to fit all of our stuff in. We filled out the application and got the the apartment less than an hour after turning it in! it’s a shitty place (only 350 a month) but not too shitty. I figure that a person in New York, LA, San Fran, or anywhere else but Lincoln Nebraska would pay ALOT more for less. Plus this way I will be able to pay for school without the pain of Loans and such. Anyway I’m packing as I type and will be moved in next monday.

I have three movers coming over to take a survey of my stuff and give me an estimate. All three got good reviews on movingscam.com which is a wonderful website that I am sooooo glad I found before I hired anyone.
