Worth the time and effort 22 months ago

In about a week, I will have been 2 years without straightening my hair. My hair is about the same length as when I cut it off (started over totally).

It took a while but now that I know the techniques and products that work for me, i can get my style on.

Looking forward to all the growth and big hair in the future.

no dye 1 year ago

I’ve never dyed my hair. My hair is long, really long like past my waist, and I wear it in a braid. My hair used to be reddish brownish blonde, but the past few years is getting brown with a bright silver gray. I noticed my sisters are dying their hair, and even my mom has noticed my graying hair. I sometimes like my gray hair, and sometimes I think I look so so old because of it, but regardless, I am not going to dye it. It is really rare in my area , town, to see women with gray hair, most dye their hair, most dye it blonde. I look older at a glance than my kids friends moms. But if you look close up… I think it looks kind of undignified for these wrinkled women to have bleach blonde hair and dress like they wish they were a teenager. It reminds me of the song,”She aint pretty, she just looks that way.” I noticed though since I’m going gray that my hair is duller than it used to be, so I have to really keep it conditioned to keep it shiny.

I will be natural for life 2 years ago

My last and final relaxer was December 28, 2002. I don’t want to press or blow dry too straight. I plan to be natural forver and ever. Amen.

:))) I’ve done anything a man could do to their hair.. for around 8 years..
So i finally decided to grow the natural color and stop messing around with it.
IT FEELS SO GREAT!!!!
It’s not true that your natural color looks bad on you.. there’s a reason why it is your natural color.. and sometimes you might need to curl/straighten your hair but in general the way it is is the way it looks the best no matter what you do to it..
it is so liberating not to worry about constantly messing around with your hair..

Nearly a year 2 years ago

It will be a year on February 16th that I have worn my hair natural. Despite the setbacks and minor chops because of a bad dye job, I’ve grown in my knowledge of what works for my hair and me.

As God intended. 2 years ago

I cut off my relaxed hair in April 2000. It can be challenging at first to get used to naturally textured hair but once you get over that it is definitely worth it. Now I just use Pantene conditioner to wash my hair (shampoo strips it) and my own blend of olive oil and lavender oil to moisturise. My hair has never looked better.

my mother's worst nightmare... 2 years ago

Looks nice though. In spite of the lack of family support, I want to spend the coming months cultivating these lovely locks (the healthy way) to shoulder length. Ultimate goal is to have a healthy and shiny uber-puff sitting on top of my head.

i cut out the hair crack in high school... 3 years ago

people talked shit but then all of a sudden those same people were teasing their straight hair to get a fro. you have to be strong in mind depending on where you live, and how your family thinks. i love how thick and long it is! it’s great! besides the fact that i’ve been attracting a different type of people…cut the fried stuff off as soon as you get the chance.

I went no ‘poo about six months ago. I’m so happy with my hair now. It’s soft and is growing well.
It’s actually less work overall but it was frustrating in the beginning. My hair doesn’t even end up feeling gross until it hasn’t been rinsed in about 3 days. I think I use baking soda and vinegar on it about bi-weekly.
I’m saving money, have healthier hair, am putting fewer ‘weird’ things in and on my body, and am devoting less time to my hair. All in all it’s a great thing.
