I’m just getting started. Only a few pages live so far. I’m following Site Build It!’s guidelines and not trying to make any money untill I have at least 30 pages of good content. How can anyone complete this goal in one day? One day isn’t enough time to build a site that makes good money.

I have recently had an idea for a website that I am hoping to develop into something that can make a lot of money (fingers crossed for luck). i have just been made redundant from work trying the internet
to try and make some money to keep my family clothed&feed cant

Well, all my cross-linking and advertising is paying off. I’ve put links to my web-site in my blog and it’s generating a lot of visits. Running at about 35 uniques per day (1000 a month) now, which is really not bad. Most hits are going into my travel section (stories from my walkabout and travels). Well, that’s the good news.

The bad news: all this traffic is so far not generating any income. I have Google Ads on my travel site page, but maybe I need to make them more visible. I have ads on my photography site as well, but these I actually DON’T want to be obtrusive, so little visibility… oh well.

Anyways, please check it out and give me hints and advice:

I think in order to make your website make money for itself you need to make it viable somehow, i.e.: business plan. There are too many homepages out there simply filling up with ads, banners and links trying to monetize their web presence, yet providing absolutely no content whatsoever. I’m in the business of photography. So far, stock photography and I’m trying to make my website portray it.

I also run, or rather did run a travel site. This was a blog, photo-blog and advice site about my travels around the world. Didn’t monetize on it at all, despite some affiliate links, but to be honest the visits to the site have been really low. They mostly (if not only) came from my friends and family interested in what I was up to and where I was in the world.

Yes, I do use Google ads, like almost everyone else in hope to let the website earn money for itself, but in the end benefits of driving potential buyers to my portfolio or bringing in affiliates outweight any Google ad payments. And that’s why I try not to make the ads too much “in your face”. So far the results have been quite good. My sales have picked up dramatically since I started to link to my portfolios through my site. I’ve gained a couple affiliates in a month as well. And Google revenue… forget about it. Maybe one day when the traffic goes into the stratosphere, but not now.
