today is the warm smell of bread in the kitchen,
and sunshine on the icicles on the clifts.
How to find beauty in something everyday
How I did it: Well, I guess I was always positive in my own way, but starting art school made me start to consicously do this. I was alone at first. Honestly, the first day in the SCPA cafeteria was the most socially awkward and alone I'd ever felt in my life. But over the course of the school year, though I adjusted, I'd still have those moments of feeling outside of the group. Which is when I started at the end of the day to make mental lists of the people and things that had made me smile that day. It wasn't a goal, it was more of a survival technique. And the more I did it, the more positive things seemed to come my way. I don't know if it was the mystical Law of Attraction or what, but the more good things I noticed...I don't know, my life just seemed to feel fuller and fuller until I realized how enormously lucky of a person I was. Life is beautiful. And there are so many small things that make it that.
Lessons & tips: Try to block all of the negative things from your mind when you do this. Because if you're like me, you create situations in your mind that probably didn't even mean anything. For instance, instead of thinking "Oh my God Craig didn't seem happy when he saw me today. Did I do something wrong? Is he mad at me???" think "Oh. Craig must've had something on his mind. But that fire drill after school was hysterical." (True story by the way. This is an example from the wonderous land of SCPAX)
Resources: Friends. Good friends that love, support, and make you laugh everytime you're even near them. Because then, even if everything that day has gone wrong, if you're Biology teacher flunked you, your parents blew up at you, and you lost a role to a girl you know slept with the director (NOT A TRUE STORY! XD) you can always fall back on how lucky you are to have such an incredible group of people surrounding you.
And prayer actually makes you feel better. It doesn't have to be to God and it doesn't even officailly have to be a prayer. Just make a list of things you're grateful for, or journal. It makes a lot of difference.

The warm soft fur of my Bassett Hound.
Lying in bed for 4 hours when I feel bad.
The smell of homemade bread in my kitchen.
The soft fur of a kitten.
The warmth of my small dog against me as I type.
The delicate, lacy designs of the frosty blanket laid on this area last night.
The clean fresh smell when the air is cold and brisk. The sunshine on a brisk day. The sun seems crisper, like light through lead crystal, as opposed to blown glass.
