My wife and I got engaged and wanted to set out on an adventure for our honeymoon. We ended up going to Belize for part of our honeymoon and visited the Mayan ruins at Xunantunich.

I visited the Chichen Itza ruins a few hours away from Cancun. They were really interesting and I still can’t believe that the aztec people made their main temple so that if you clapped at the bottom, the sound of your clap would sound something like a bird’s call. Weird huh?
I’m from Honduras and we have the city of Copan (mayan) i’ve been there like 3 times and everytime i learn something new!

used to go every summer growing up, need to take kids and hubby sometime soon. In-laws would love it too. I’m less motivated to go since most of my generation is in the States now, scattered to the winds. It’s so sad, we used to have huge reunions when my family went down to visit.
My fascination with the Mayan people began about ten years ago when i was obsessed with UFOs, as there are lots of theories that the Mayans must have been visited by aliens to have had such sophisticated ideas about astronomy and mathematics. I’m a bit more cynical nowadays but would love to visit Palenque and Chichen Itza and all those other Mayan ruins to try and find out for myself what they were about. And while I’m there, i might as well visit some Aztec sites as well!
