How to visit Tibet

Entries

further than the fringes 4 months ago

I don’t live too far away and I’ve been to the fringe areas outside of the autonomous region, but I’ve yet to spend some real quality time exploring further

and also 5 months ago

learn more about Buddhism, hike in the mountains, bask in the monasteries, meditate with the monks, and enjoy the nature.

Close to India.. 11 months ago

I want to go there to exchange culture. And to view some real good scenic beauty..

Anyone wants to game for it?

I am open to even join the group if anyone is visiting.

Cheers,
Swapnil (India).

Very excited that i took the time to think about this one seriously…finally. I’m now planning and actually saving to take a ‘volunteer vacation’ to either tibet or dharamsala in the next couple years. Right now either will be acceptable.

I’m researching the companies that offer these opportunities first. I really want to do the ‘volunteer’ part because i think it will better allow me to be immersed in the culture and make real connections with people. If none of the organizations look good though I wlll be doing it on my own.

Still on the list 17 months ago

This is one of the long term goals on my list that I am not ‘actively’ working on but the progress I make toward other goals and in other ares in my life will surely get me there one day.

Oh,Tibet! 17 months ago

It’s not a very good experience. One of my friends had altitude sickness and I got diarrhoea for a week in the 14 days journey. Worst of all, when we visit the local hospital, the doctor said it’s normal, the local people had diarrhoea almost once a week in view of the unsanitary environment.

After all, I found it still worthwhile. The view is spectacular and the travel experience is priceless.

Sadly it looks like i’m going to have to put off my planned trip to Tibet next month due to the current ongoing issues. Hopefully i will be able to go soon, once the situation has radically improved for the peoples of Tibet

I went to Tibet with an AMAZING program called passage project, which is based out of Kathmandu. If you’re interested in going, their website is: passageproject.org

Teaching English 3 years ago

want to go to Tibet for free? I did! I taught ESL (English Second Language) for an entire summer in Lhasa… and had a blast! The county is beautiful and the people are SOOOOO friendly. Someday I hope to go back there with my husband in tow.

charmo asks, “from chengdu, is it possible to get to tibet for less than/around US $500? If it would be best to book with an agency in Chengdu versus here in the U.S., are there any suggestions (and reasonable price options)”
