Although this is a classic noir, best known for the final hall of mirrors scene, Orson Wells is wildly mis-cast as an Irishman and his accent is only marginally worse than Brad Pitt’s Jamaican accent in Meet Joe Black! Rita Hayworth makes a foxy blonde though.

... do the first Bond movies, those with Sean Connery, qualify as classics?

Cruddy new releases make this a habit! 23 months ago

I don’t know how often we go to the video store, look at the new releases, decide there isn’t anything we want to see (or pay that much for while it is still a new release) and grab a classic film.

We have definitely seen some amazing films we’d never have touched without this goal. And we’ve also seen some “classics” that I consider clunkers, mostly because I find them so unrealistic and unbelievable. Film-making has sure changed in the last 60 years!

I will continue to do this, but definitely feel I can cross it from the list.

In a Lonely Place... 1 year ago

This is a really dark role for Bogart. And Gloria Graham is just the perfect mix of scheming and innocence for the character she plays.

All About Eve... 2 years ago

...OMG! At last a film to rival Sunset Boulevard, this is an AMAZING film!

Rita Hayworth and Glen Ford, not bad, but nowhere good as Gilda.

Really enjoyed this movie. The beautiful Toshiro Mifune makes an excellent maniacal bandit.

I realized today that in the last few months, I’ve seen more movies from before WWII than I’ve seen from the last 20 years. And my PVR is full of even more. And it has been so worth it. It’s nice to not have to shut the TV off every time a kid gets out of bed!

Citizen Kane 2 years ago

Finally saw this movie several weeks ago. It was a good movie, about a rather unlikeable character. I actually really enjoyed the commentary on in one of the special features about what made this such a landmark film at the time. It gave it more perspective.
