My best mile time was 4:21 in high school. I haven’t run a timed mile since then. It’s been 15 years. Most of my exercise lately has been running around Halo maps or from one end of Azeroth to another. My wife just opened a bakery (www.asnackintheface.com) so I’m eating cupcakes everyday.
So, I’d like to get back under 6 minutes in the mile. I went out tonight for my first timed run in 15 years and was pleasantly surprised. 6:45. I think if I just get off my ass and jog a bit, and lose the 10 lbs I’d like to get rid of, this one’s in the bag.

I’m stuck at a 6:15 mile run. I can’t get any faster, by the way I am 13 and in 9th grade and a girl. Anyone have any advice on how to improve your time?

I just ran 3.6 miles at a 6:39 min/mile pace. I haven’t tried a track run for a few months – but maybe I’m ready to try for a sub-6 minute mile.

got out to the track and ran 4 440s with 220 cooldown in between. Here are the splits:
1:18.6
1:30.1
1:26.2
1:28.4
Now granted I took a half lap breather in between these laps, all the breaks were less than 1:30 as well. This definately gives me somewhere to start. Next track time will be 880s
Although this is my first attempt at the track, I have been running a program that includes hill intervals once a week. I do three minute intervals up a fairly steep grade that really sucks and skyrockets my heartrate to 185+ by the second block. Anyway forcing your body to work through lactic acid buildup is the way to go to get faster since you wont find many people who are going to run a 6:00 minute mile aerobically.

I was in ninth grade and it was the end of the year. Time for the fitness test and THE dreaded mile. I started off comfortably and got right in behind Julie Z. who was the fastest girl and had an amazing inspiring rear view. I drafted (not really a factor in a six minute anything) behind her pushing myself to not fall more than two steps behind. At the last half track I unleashed everything and pulled ahead of her and ended up running the fastest mile I had ever run 6:02.
OK now I’m thirty and THE mile is silly since I run an average of four miles a day and am fairly certain I am in better shape now than I was then.
However, that :02 would be nice to break. I am not sure where I am in terms of single mile times as the ninth grade was THE last time I ever timed the mile.
This will be fun.

i just found out that my local track, which i always assumed was .25 miles long, is actually .3 miles long. which means the 7:45 i logged on thursday was for 1.2 miles = 1 mile in 6:27. i may be able to pull this off by fall’s end after all.

7:45 & 8:10 the past two weeks. not exactly encouraging. the first time i started too fast and petered out by the end, the other day i think i started too slow but it was also super windy. today was perfectly still and would have been a great day to try but it was endurance day. we’ll see how it goes this week :P

I ran in a relay last weekend where I had to run a two-mile lap four times. My best time was 7:02/mile. This coming weekend I’m going to see how fast I can run a flat mile at the track.
