Ick! Well I’ve dropped some money (there you go NCARB), spent some dreadfully boring hours weeding through years of hours, now I just need to make sure my boss signs off on the damn thing, and soon. What a lousy process. Now I need to stay on top of logging my hours. Yippeeeee!

So my potential mentor is on vacation for the next week. I’m still not sure if he’s willing to be my mentor. I suppose I’ll just have to wait.
I’m hoping he’s the kind of person that would be interested in mentoring someone like me. Afterall, he is a professor, so he must have some interest in passing on his knowledge to the younger generation, right?

My professor responded to my e-mail asking him to be my mentor with a very cryptic reply:
“Let’s discuss further.”
What is this supposed to mean? Why can’t people just say what they mean instead of giving non-answers like this?

Okay. I am done sorting out all my hours. I am just waiting for someone to e-mail me back to clarify how to classify some random hours.
I also asked one of my previous professors if he would be my mentor. Waiting for his reply also.
I am somewhat surprised that I only have 120.3 training units for construction documents, and a whopping 174.8 units in schematic design.

Went through more time sheets last night. Nearly there. Just a few more months. Then I get to do fun math and convert every eight hours of work in each category into a “training unit.” Long division here I come!

I just went through 11 months of old time sheets dividing my time into various fun-filled categories. Only 21 more months of time sheets to go! I seem to be getting a nice strong dose of SD, DD, and CD units. No surprise there.

So I sent off that form to the university where I got my bachelors degree requesting that they send my transcript to NCARB. First thing done!

After a IDP bootcamp for “summer interns” at my new office, I recieved a swift kick in the ass. Basically I need to log all my hours now because NCARB will soon be passing a regulation that will nullify all unlogged hours that are older than six months. That would set me back about two and a half years. Can’t let that happen!
Oh NCARB – WHY??? This is the worst sort of activity and yet I’m doing it willingly. I get to go through 2 years of time cards and meticulously file them away in the IDP categories. Each unit is 8 hours, I need 700 of them. The difficult categories to collect hours will be Building Cost Analysis, Bidding and Contract Negotiation, Construction Phase – Office, and Construction Phase – Observation. We even need community service – 80 hours worth!
So I haven’t dished out all the cash to even get my name into NCARB’s list, but I have started studying. I currently meet every Wednesday night at my favorite coffee house (the Coffee Cat) and study SITE PLANNING with one of my friends. Terribly exciting. We draw contours, drainage swales, parking spots and then argue about whether or not the “solution” answer is even practical.
