Just ran my first marathon in Denver, CO. I am hooked on this marathon thing. Must qualify for Boston!
How to qualify for and run the Boston Marathon
How I did it: i went for the runner's world plan. i ran in college, so i'm used to keeping a good pace (race pace) on all my training runs, which isn't a bad idea. also helpful was joining up with a group of other marathon trainers for the long runs!

This year, I’ve got to do it. I want to run Boston and get the darn jacket so I can retire from this marathon nonsense and get my life back! I have to run a 3:45. I’ve run 3:40 twice, and should be able to tough it out this time around.

I’ve made two attempts to hit the 3:20 I need to qualify and last minute injuries have held me back both times. I came frustratingly close though (3:24 and 3:26). I’m slowly ramping up my mileage in preparation for Vancouver in May.
I just finished my first marathon at just over 7 hours, if I cut my time in half I’ll qualify.
Knee pain seems to be limiting distance now – will spend the winter focusing on shorter distances while maintaining endurance on the bike. Need to see a physio for some assessment. Unlikely to try to qualify in 2008 – perhaps will attempt to qualify once I hit 40 – that is:
Qualify – 2010-2011
Race – 2011+
In the interim period will plan to target 3:30 and below.
Entered Big Sur which will not qualify me but hopefully can do this race in the future. Need to take about 15 minutes off my current PB to qualify.
But I knew that already. My ankle is just getting to the point of feeling normal, and the running is an early work in progress. I’m signed up for the Hyannis Half Marathon in Feb though, and I’m at least running faster than the old ladies walk, so I’ll get there eventually. Maybe next year, we’ll see.
