Cob and Bamboo 7 months ago

I want to build my own home out of cob and bamboo. I want it to be two levels with lots of windows. I want lots of found objects embedded into the walls and driftwood for stair railings.

Long term goal! 10 months ago

I’ve glanced at others’ entries for this one and I’m at a significant disadvantage being in the UK for this one. If you don’t believe me, one person mentions needing $20,000 for a plot outside the city…

Now, I’m not trying to sound superior or knock anyone else’s acheivements – just asking for a little latitude if it takes me a decade or more as land carries a significant premium on this little overcrowded island : plot likely to cost >£150,000, build estimated c.£120,000.

No Modular Homes! 22 months ago

I thought about this and yeah, I don’t think so.

I’m positive I’ll build my own home, just not this way. Living in “used” houses has always freaked me out (ghosts and former meth lab being the front runners for creating the freak), and I have way too much personality to be happy with the poorly-made cookie-cutter houses they’re peddling these days. But sigh, not in the near future.

build... 22 months ago

I am so sick of paying lot rent to live in this pig sty of a trailer park but, have no other option than to buy land outside of the city. That will be 320.00 a month I could be investing in something that I can see and keep. I have already designed my floor plan.. now all need to do is save $20.000.00. This will be interesting. Single moms never have any money.

I was looking into pre-fab and modular homes and such and it seems like if we commit time and our bodies to this project, we can get a decent home for an affordable price. I do have 2 brothers, 2 fathers and a couple friends who might be willing to help us out with this goal. So I’m going to try to make it happen.

I’m giving myself 5 years to get the house of my dreams. Or as close to it as I can get in prefab.

I want to build a home that can be off the grid. Solar, wind energy, save water from the rain, not very big, reused materials… Someplace Hubby and I can retire to, so elderly-user-friendly.

A work in progress 2 years ago

Well, we’ve got a decent start on the property. The trees are coming down and the firewood is building up! I hate losing so much shade but there will still be several mature trees around our new home. I’m having trouble visualizing it, but I’m trying to have faith that things will eventually get done.
