Free Entrance Days in the National Parks

America’s Best Idea – the national parks – gets even better with several fee-free days at more than 100 national parks that usually charge entrance fees.*

Mark your calendar for these fee-free days in 2011:

  • January 15-17
(Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday weekend)
  • April 16-24
    (National Park Week)
  • June 21
    (First day of summer)
  • September 24
    (Public Lands Day)
  • November 11-13
    (Veterans Day weekend)

Making the fun even more affordable, many national park concessioners are joining the National Park Service in welcoming visitors with their own special offers.

Here’s a tip – many of your 394 national parks NEVER charge an entrance fee. So start Planning Your Visit! 13 months ago

secondmercedesMy friend Mac worked there

My old friend Mac worked there before he died in an accident this past May. He drove up to Alaska in an egg-beater VW bus that broke down several times along the way there and the way back. He had to have his dad send him parts to fix it himself because he couldn’t afford to pay someone to fix it and he usually wasn’t in any place that knew how to fix it. He was a park ranger/guide up there and was learning all about the area of Denali. He loved it. It was his one last shabang and I’d like to know what he saw when he was up there. He died tragically close to home in a freak accident while camping at the Great Sand Dunes National Park in the Colorado Rockies this past May. 3 years ago
