Today is the day that I have decided to do an Ironman. I will start with a 1/2 Ironman.
How to complete an ironman
How I did it: A year of training my body, my mind and my self discipline to accomplish a pretty big life goal! I had a triathlon team full of people training for all distances, and several training for Ironman USA. I could not have done it without my coach and my team.

I need to do this again. I’m going to set my sights on Lake Placid 2011, and under 12 hours.
Mixed in amongst a chaotic mix of childhood memories is an incredibly clear moment when I happened to pass by the TV tunes to Wide World of Sports as they covered the Ironman in Hawaii. I was awestruck by the incredible feat as the announcer went on and on about how gruelling it must be and the incredibly strength and courage shown in the athletes. I didn’t realize it for several decades but I was hooked line and sinker that very moment. I WILL be an Ironman.
It was some months ago, but I finished Ironman Florida. I got sick from the salt water and the salt tablets, but I crossed the finish line in under 15 hours. Next time I can try to be much faster.
I can post the whole story later.
I signed up for the 2009 Ironman Louisville (August 2009). I have completed several sprint and olympic triathlons and I am wanting to step it up. I have never swan 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles or ran a marathon. These will all be goals for this year.
gonegoing is in awe of the changing season
The seeds were planted several years ago on a trip to the Big Island. Based upon others’, it seems like I could be reasonably competitive by my early thirties if I resume training NOW.

i want to complete an ironman. i want to see how much it hurts.
My swimming is coming along nicely. If my knee allows, I’ll still shoot for Ironman Florida in Nov 2008. I’ve done 2000 meter swims the past two swims. I still have over a year to build up to 4000+ meters. I’ll have a ton of time to perfect my technique and work on speed without having to worry about the distance, and that makes me happy.
Now to get my knee fixed.
