I knew at Age 16…getting my learners permit was just the beginning. My ultimate goal was and still is to travel by Land, Air and Sea not as a Passenger BUT as the Driver, Pilot and Captain. To date I’ve covered Land and Sea…all that remains is getting my Pilots License. Given the amount of time is takes to aquire one…I’d like to try and accomplish this over the next 2years (trying to be realistic).

How I did it: My dad was a pilot. I have a picture of me just a couple of months old sitting in my Dad's lap with my hand on the stick. Of course I didn't know what I was doing at that age. When I was about 7 or 8 my Dad and I flew about 3 hours North to Visit my Grandmother. He let me fly the whole way up there. It was a little 4 seater plane. I'm the only sibling who doesn't have my pilot's license. My Mom is still saving one of my Dad's shirts … Read how I did it…
How I did it: joined cadets, and we had a familiarization flying day, once we had taken off I was given control of the plane (cessna 152) and I got to fly for 25 minutes and then was guided into the landing by the actual pilot sitting next to me.I got to fly 14 times before I had to quit since I was moving to university. How I did it: There's a high school up north in Galena, Alaska called G.I.L.A. They teach high schoolers (Sophmore and up) how to fly a plane. I flew the same plane twice, a few months apart, after learning how to control it. Read how I did it…

How I did it: Hubby and I did it together. The weather was perfect, our instructor was excellent - I don't think it could have gone any better! Very cool experience! Read how I did it…

How I did it: A friend of mine in college had a professor who flew regularly and after we finished finals took us up in a twin-engine Piper. The weather was absolutely perfect and he had a friend who worked the flight tower that gave us a helicopter route to take. He performed the takeoff and landing but let me work the yoke for a good while. Great fun and it felt so free. Now I'm convinced I need to get a pilots license. Read how I did it…

...I just need to pop into the airport and have a chat with the instructors about a trial flight. I shall try and be mindful of this goal next time I am driving that way.
at the airport is $120 and you get to take the controls! After I do this I’ll see if I want to get my PPL/CPL/ATPL.
I flew a Cessna-172R on a discovery filght. We flew out of the Sugar Land regional airport around downtown Houston and over around the San Jacinto monument and Battleship Texas (Port of Houston area) then came back and flew over the Galleria. We stayed between 1700 and 2100 feet the whole time. My instructor steered during the takeoff and I lifted the nose and flew the rest of the time. I was kinda shaky coming in for the landing so he had to take over to land. I think I scared him! I steered it back down the runway though, without running into the grass! (You have to steer with your feet and that threw me off a little.) It was cool. I had to learn all about the aircraft beforehand and do all of the inspections, etc.
My Wife got me an orientation flight a few years ago for my birthday.
Technically I wasn’t flying, my cousin was, but it was terrifying! You’re a mile above the ground in something the size of a hatch-back shaking up and down ever now and then, then banking at 60 degrees and not knowing where the horizon is. It wasn’t my idea of fun but it did have some great views.

...I’m going to go with this – there local, I like the look of them and they provide a nice honest breakdown of costs!
To get my full Private Pilot’s Licence would cost me in total around £6500. Not sure I really feel the need to do this but if I had the money I’d jump at it in a shot!
For an ‘Introduction to Flying’ course we’re talking around £700. More of a possibility but not right now.
What I probably could manage sometime soon is a trial flying lesson for £55! I definitely think I’ll try this out to see if I want to spend £700 or not!
I have to be more disciplined and go to the airport which is right next door.

It would be fun to fly a glider or a ultralight someday. This is probably one of the easier goals to achieve, so not much planning needed.
