So, the trainer that they recommended for me does not work evenings, which makes everything a bit tough for me. My boyfriend has flexible time right now, so he’s meeting her tomorrow. I need to get names from her and find someone new. I did stretch to a yoga tape yesterday, but I need an actual plan and I need to learn how the machines work.
I am actively going to the Y, at least in fits and starts, so I’m going to split this into a few goals, including get an appointment with a trainer. 5 years ago

mea culpa, but in my defense, my subway line was down [stalled train], and I got in 5.732 miles anyway, according to gmap-pedometer. Our normal gym nights are going to be Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, but we had a meeting on Thursday this week. It’s surprisingly easy to flake out. I have to remember not to even suggest flaking out unless I mean it.
Still haven’t heard from the trainer, although we’ve left messages. I guess if I don’t hear from the trainer, I should just do long fast-ish walks on the treadmill. I can regularly walk 5 miles without hating myself afterwards, so maybe that’s my temporary goal, maybe? 5 years ago

We actually visited the Y and did a little exercise yesterday. We spoke to the manager and got the name and number of a good trainer for our orientation. I’m glad we get a free lesson because I was totally lost. I walked on the treadmill, but I didn’t realise that it walked on its own, and I though that it was going slowly because I wasn’t pushing hard enough. Turns out it was set at .5 mph. Yep. That was good. Once I found the “speed” button, I was a little better off. It never quite measured my pulse properly [surely it’s not 61], but I felt like I was moving, even if I was only going 5mph. I marched along for a half a mile and then switched to the elliptical, which was completely confusing. I played around with the up and down buttons and stepped for ten minutes. Afterwards I felt like I should stretch, but I wasn’t certain which ones to do. I did a few leg-based asanas and then went off to dinner with my boyfriend.
I can tell that I wasn’t doing things properly because the only muscles that hurt are in my back—I guess I was hanging on for dear life. However, I liked the general atmosphere in the gym. Most of the other people exercising were women, and no one looked like they were ordinary, rather than obsessive. We were there after work around 7pm, and while they had a signup sheet, the place wasn’t too crowded. It’s definitely not a fancy place like my sister’s gym. Most of the people there looked like they were trying to get in shape, rather than already in shape, and many of them were reading while they exercised. The guy at the desk and the gym manager were both very nice. I felt out of place being in a gym, but I didn’t feel out of place among the people there. I could get used to it… 5 years ago

get to the class, but I did wander around for a three hours trying to find a good pair of shoes and failing to find a couple of other things on my list. At least it was a lot of walking… 5 years ago

We get a free appointment with a personal trainer, and tomorrow my boyfriend is going to call and arrange them for us. We plan on going Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and then we’ll get dinner afterwards.
There is a Pilates class I want to take tomorrow, but I may wimp out and wait until I meet with the trainer. I know that the class is free for members and starts at 7, but I don’t know anything else about it… 5 years ago
