It is one of the few rules of grammar that I am not the least bit reluctant to cheerfully break at any opportunity.

it seems much more difficult and yet more natural than it really is. for all of the preconceived notions one might have, this goals defies them all and involves their contraries. i find it much more difficult to end sentences with prepositions consistently. also, mastering of the passive v. active voices will cause considerably more stress than this goal.

however, once you do it three, four times, youll never be able to remember how you got by without splitting infinitives.

    seriously

I’ve always thought ‘I intent to not die’ scoped better than ‘I intend not to die’. With the latter, the ‘not’ could go with the ‘intend’, rather than the ‘die’. It’s not just that I don’t intend to die, I intent not to, dagnabbit!

of saying ‘quickly split an infinitive’ is only surpassed by the sheer joy of converting it into a split infinitive with spoonerism… ‘to splickly quit an infinitive’ :)
