buy a television

Well, after the donation fell through we had Paulie’s TV in storage at Kate’s house. She called recently and said she needed the space, so it just makes sense for us to take it after all. It’s a nice, practically new 27” flat screen.

Markus picked it up today and we’ve hooked it up, although we needed to take a piece out of the entertainment cab to get it to fit. It’s wonderful – Thank-you Paulie. I miss you.

I know, I know, TV is the devil.

It also helps keep things sane around here – I don’t know where I’d be without late night movies to soothe my insomnia, kids educational dvds to give me half an hour of calm, or some at-home entertainment for those times we can’t make it out the door.

We don’t even have cable. We haven’t for years. It’s funny, I’d actually ordered it for today, but I called last night and cancelled the installation.

Today the television apparently decided to protest this outrage and blew up. More or less… it fizzled and popped and spouted the grey electrical breath of death which lingered in the air for hours.

We really must get another one. It doesn’t even need to be new…

I recently sold my property in the UK and sold some of the furniture in the apartment. With the money I made from the furniture sales, I bought myself a brand new 40” LCD TV and surround sound system for my apartment in Dubai. It’s great! I have friends round for movie nights and Sex And The City / Friends / Cold Feet / This Life reruns! Especially as now Dubai is just getting too darn hot to hang about outside, it’s fun to have my friends chilling in my apartment, as long as they bring the beer and popcorn!

I am trying to establish a life that doesn’t have a TV, but going to the cinema all the time to see good movies is pretty expensive, and it would be so much fun to have girlie nights in with my girlfriends watching chick flicks and Sex and the City etc. But I can’t just now. So, eventually, I will get round to buying a TV!

19” old ‘un. It works great for halo, don’t even have it connected to an antenna.

I’ve been without one for nearly a year. I just got Netflix, and it rocks, but it doesn’t rock so much, watching the DVDs on the computer and not in bed as I would prefer. Solution: Television.
