Well, i started learning to do moonwalk around a year and a half ago (i know… a very long time) and im pretty sure I’ve mastered the moonwalk!
Its like second nature to me, i dont even have to think about it, i just do it! Its great!
but one thing I’ve had trouble with is the fact I’m still growing. The joints in my knees and ankles pop out or roll frequently (not so much my knees more my ankles), and this is very painful if your not careful!
I’m currently practicing doing moonwalk in a circle (cool) and im not sure if its any good yet!
and again, my ankle rolls, but more so with this one because your turning alot and gee, does it hurt when my ankle pops out! ouch!
Well… if you planning to learn to moonwalk yourself, here are some tips to remember:
1. When your first learning to moonwalk, it always helps to be on a slippery surface such as polished floorboards or very smooth concrete or marble… and i find that the floor they have in shopping malls is also good! haha.
2. When your first learning, wearing socks is also a great idea, as it reduces friction. make sure your socks are dry, or it wont work.
3. Another thing you can use are dance shoes or shoes with no grip, but this is probably not the best option.
4. If you put talc powder onto an already slippery surface it can make things alot easier. Or if your surface is not quite slippery enough, talc is good.
5. you should ALWAYS do warm up exercises such as rolling your ankles around and bending your toes and just general foot and leg stretches/exercises to get the blood moving and to minmize the risk of creating a knot or popping your ankle (ow).
6. There are such thing a practice exercises. you practice shifting your balance from one foot to the other, by having one foot (lets say ur left) flat on the floor while the other (ur right) is on the ball of its foot. Now, your weight should be on your right foot at this point. then, you swap over from right to left, and stand on the ball of our left foot wih your right foot flat on the ground. Repeat this over and over until you get the gist of switching your weight.
... nor will I ever learn to do it well enough to ever have use for it.
