How to go organic

unworthychild is ready to hear from God

A work in progress 3 weeks ago

We had joined an organic co-op and everything… but my husband got layed off and finances are extremely tight right now. We will get back to that place we were 8 months ago, especially after my hubster completes his paramedic training. :-) We’ve just got to be patient and wait on God to provide. So this is a tentative goal… one that will eventually come to pass but really cannot be actively pursued.
WE do make our own deoderant! It is cheap and easy to make and works wonderfully!!!

why are most foods crap?filled with perservitives, devoid of nutrition, and over processed. yet we (or i should say i)eat this stuff bc its affordable. So, i am going to try to make and effort to buy foods that are more wholesome and less processed. For starters I will pick up more fruites and veggies and buy less stuff in boxes. This is going to be hard, but if i can manage, it will be worth it.

rottingteeth the alternative

on my way 4 months ago

i’ve already quit using store bought shampoos, toothpastes, lotions etc. and started making my own.

i’ve started to drink enough water every day, and i drink 1-2 glass(es) of fresh juice every day (fruit in the morning, vegetable in the evening). i have cut out a lot of junk food from my diet.

it was easy, i’ve gone through “health phases” for as long as i can remember, so i’m plenty used to it. the only issue is money. i live with my grandparents right now and i don’t have a job, so i take what i can get.

it may be years before i can live a full organic lifestyle, but now, at least, i can stick to raw fruits and vegetables, make my own toiletries, drink water and get enough sunlight.

Well I want to go “All Natural” because I’m starting to see the effects and damage of all these so called “Safe Chemicals” not only on the enviroment but to the human body as well!!! I looked up chemicals in makeup, shower gels, soap etc. and its ridiculus. These products are harmful!!! And the amount of preservatives in food these days is terrible!! I think having sensitive skin has made me more aware of how harmful these products can be due to some bad experiences I’ve had with products!! So the plan is to make my own soaps and gels and whatnot out of natural products and see how they go!!

to the roster of organics in my shopping cart. That and only buying organic meats is enough to keep me busy with this goal for quite a while.

I firmly believe this should be a process and not a completely 180o change in diet. Adding things bit by bit is less of an assault to my grocery budget, and makes me really appreciate each new item that is introduced.

I’m finding that working toward this goal has made me more aware of the food I’m eating. I’m much less likely to eat processed crap, and it has in turn made my diet healthier. I have a looong way to go, but I’m proud of the progress I’ve made so far.

Progress 8 months ago

It feels good to be working on this goal…it is slow but steady progress. So far I have converted to organic milk, bread and pasta, certain fruits (berries mostly) and vegetables, and I just started buying poultry.

I tried buying organic garbanzo beans and making hummus – but that was so disgusting to me that I won’t ever put that in my mouth again. No more beans. I never liked beans before so I don’t know why I thought being on a health kick would change my mind!

So far adding a few organic items here and there hasn’t changed my grocery bill significantly. I’m sure it’s higher, but adding a little bit at a time makes the increase not quite as painful.

yayyy organic! 10 months ago

I am supposed to do all the grocery shopping for the family I nanny so they are going to go organic too! It feels sneaky but whatever because it’s good for you.

So I actually opened those organic goodies I’ve been storing up for today and they are mighty good! I have to go to the health food store to buy some more but I can already tell it will be so worth it.
