When we moved to Hawaii, the first thing I learned was snorkeling. There’s some really great snorkeling to be had in Hawaii. My personal favorite spot is Shark’s Cove, on the north shore. You can only snorkel there in the summer though, because during the winter months, the north shore gets heavy surf. (That’s where all the big surfing competitions happen.)

I brought an underwater camera too, which was priceless. I kept swimming too deep though so my mask wasn’t much help :)

This is the most amazing experience. You haven’t snorkeled until you’ve seen baby fish coming out of coral (they were about 1/10th the size of your pinki nail – AMAZING!)

at first it felt really claustrophobic, then I took my time and got used to the breathing. after that it was a blast-tons of colorful fish & warm water. it was something I’m interested in doing now all over the world.

Snorkeling in an area where there is lots of coral reefs. Wow. There’s nothing like it. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Take an underwater camera… you won’t regret it.

I’ve Snorkled in many places – off the Black Rocks (Kaanapali Beach, Maui), various spots in the Caribbean (including Frenchman’s Reef, Virgin Islands) but nowhere is so tailor made for someone not comfortable with being in the “wild.”
The bay is sheltered, and you can get have a good outing, without going above chest height in the water, by staying inside the inner reef….
A must for those who think they could never do it because of poor swiming skills…
If you can’t swim at all, you can just wade out to waist height, stick your head in the water, and see a whole different world…
