"my whole life i have had the worst self esteem, so i figured i would do my hair, clothing, and makeup in a way that made ME like what I see and feel confident about myself- i started with makeup."
How I did it: EXPERIMENTATION. trial and error. ive gone thru every look imaginable, from preppy to punk to goth to metal- you name, ive done it, and ive always had the makeup to match the look. if i had to name the look i have now i would call it a mix between the clean and classic look of the 1950s and the tattooed/pierced look of 2008. you just have to be willing work at this though.
Lessons & tips: 1- find out what your skin type is (oily, dry, combination, sensetive, etc). this will determine what type of foundation, concealer, and powder you should buy.
2-decide what kind of look you want- will this makeup be for every day? special occasions? evenings? clubbing? dates? once you combine the occasion with the look you want (retro, dramatic, glam, natural, bronzed, etc)- then you will have your ideal makeup look and will know what kind of makeup to buy.
3-when you buy your makeup you dont have to spend $1,000+ at sephora, i go to cvs and come out with high quality, long lasting makeup and also get more bang for my buck. if your clueless as to what kind of makeup to buy, pick up your favorite fashion magazine, clip pics of looks that are close to what you want, and bring them with you to wherever you choose to shop.
4-every girl likes to be ahead of the curve and have some funky shades of eyeshadow and lipstick in her makeup box, but REMEMBER to keep basic and natural shades at hand as well. just like when you go to grandmas house your not going to wear your hooker boots, when you meet your boyfriends parents for the first time you dont wanna look like an oompa loompa.
5- HAVE FUN! do your makeup in a way that makes you feel happy and confident with yourself and just make sure to keep the makeup appropriate to the social situation and dont go overboard with the foundation, concealer, and powder (no one wants to look like a slab of vanilla cake).
