I FINALLY did it. A new small business Indian restaurant opened in our town and I went on the second opening night (tonight). While it was extremely understaffed, the food was great. It was buffet style, which wasn’t ideal, but seems better now than trying to read it off of a menu. It was also all fresh made and authentic because all the staff were Indian. However, we had to wait for much of the food to be made and come to the front. Thus I did not get a decent size of curry. But yes, the food was very good—I had naan, curry, some eggplant/veggies, and some kind of pinto(?) beans. That was another bad part, no labeling or ingredients. Not bad but I’m a bit of a health freak and also a vegetarian. I know most of the food is already meat-free but it’s still reassuring. It was $8.99, but I will at least go there once more. Just not make it very frequent. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts…

I was apprehensive about trying Indian food, but several years ago, one of my clients owned an Indian restaurant and invited me to lunch at his restaurant to discuss business. I decided to start out with vegetarian items first. The peas and potatoes are so good! So is naan, the bread. Samosas are good too – they are little meat pies – either beef or chicken. i also cook come curries at home now. Whole foods has an excellent slow cooker vegetarian recipe – my dinner guests and my husband rave over it – tastes and smells so good!!

I’m a vegetarian and I heard this is a great cuisine for such a diet. I’m not a big fan of spicy foods or ones with really strong flavors. Another concern is calories and fat for me—can someone suggest what items I should order if I go?

I have to say this is my favorite food. So spicy and flavorful! It’s also easy to eat with my vegetarian diet.

I tried Indian food FINALLY a couple of weekends ago at a wedding (traditional Indian ceremony) and it was AMAZING. Spectacular flavors and a great variety of food. I will definately be checking out some local Indian eateries in the near future.

Ok, maybe the above is a bit of an overstatement, because I’ll always love me some Macaroni & Cheese. However, after almost 4 months of having my first taste of Indian food, I am still feening for some more. Let’s see…I had Roti, Chicken Curry, Chick Peas, and some other spicy meat that was delicious. My friend who I attend college with is from Trinidad but she’s Indian and so her mother came from Trinidad to visit her and her sister. While she was down here she cooked almost everyday but I only got to try her cooking twice. I think the chicken curry was the best.
The first time she cooked for us I don’t even remember what it was. It was ok, but I really didn’t care for it. It was like a bunch of little trinkets and stuff. Haha, didn’t fill me. They also eat a lot of their food with beer (Heineken in particular) being that the drinking age over in Trinidad is relatively lower. I mean, I was 18 at the time and her mother knew that my roommate and I were underage (according to US standards) and she didn’t care. I was like…woah!! I need to hang around people from Trinidad more often.

my friend took me to an indian restaurant a couple months ago.. and since its been on the top of my list for ethnic food. the tika masala(sp?) is the best! my whole family likes it too which means a lot because they are picky. anyway is you are hesitant, just try it the worst that will happen is you’ll never go back again, but i doubt it.

Chana masala is my favorite food in the whole world, but I never would have tried Indian food if I hadn’t been forced to by my friends because I was always such a picky eater. Ethnic food is fantastic! Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it. :)
