lovingeveryminuteTrack 4 -- These Boots Were Made For Walkin'

I was so little!!! I didn’t understand the words to this song, being in first grade at the time it was recorded! Nevertheless, in 1966, my next-door neighbor and I both got white go-go boots for Christmas.

I lived 3 houses down from the corner of our block. The two of us would zip our tiny little white boots on and go down to the stop sign and belt out “These Boots Were Made For Walkin’” for all the passing cars.

Oh brother. How were we ever allowed to do that?! Well, it was 1966 and times were different, that’s how.

But apparently not much different, considering the lyrics. Ironically, my mom was living this song WHILE it was playing on the radio. She walked, too.

We knew all the words to this song because it was on the radio a lot. We sang it with gusto. I didn’t understand what Nancy Sinatra was singing about, but when we had to move away from that neighborhood, that house, I associated the song with the move, so it never did take on an adult (or adultrous) meaning to me.

In 1973 or so, we had to move because our house…well, that whole neighborhood…was to be torn down to put a freeway through Phoenix. Later, the hospital took over the land and the AZ-202/I-10 interchange was rerouted a couple blocks farther south. That is an important memory for me which is forever linked to this song. The house still shows up in my dreams on a regular basis.

As a first grader, I remember especially enjoying truthin’ and samin’ being used as verbs, and the phrase “oughta not” which somehow has remained in my highly educated vocabulary.

These Boots Were Made For Walkin’:
You keep saying you’ve got something for me.
Something you call love, but confess.
You’ve been messin’ where you shouldn’ta been a messin’
And now someone else is gettin’ all your best.

These boots are made for walkin’, and that’s just what they’ll do.
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

You keep lyin’ when you oughta be truthin’
And you keep losin’ when you oughta not bet.
You keep samin’ when you oughta be changin’.
Now what’s right is right, but you ain’t been right yet.

These boots are made for walkin’, and that’s just what they’ll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

You keep playin’ where you shouldn’t be playin’.
And you keep thinkin’ that you´ll never get burnt. Ha!
I just found me a brand new box of matches, yeah-
and what he knows you ain’t had time to learn!

These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

Are you ready boots? Start walkin’! 4 months ago

“He Wasn’t”

There’s not much going on today!
I’m really bored—it’s getting late.
What happened to my Saturday?
Monday’s coming—the day I hate.

Sit on the bed alone…
staring at the phone…

He wasn’t what I wanted, what I thought, no.
He wouldn’t even open up the door!
He never made me feel like I was special.
He isn’t really what I’m looking for!

This is when I start to bite my nails…
And clean my room when all else fails…
I think it’s time for me to bail.
This point of view is getting stale.

Sit on the bed alone… staring at the phone.

He wasn’t what I wanted, what I thought, no.
He wouldn’t even open up the door!
He never made me feel like I was special.
He isn’t really what I’m looking for!

Nah-nah-nana-nah, we’ve all got choices.
Nah-nah-nana! We’ve all got voices.
Nah-nah-nana-nah, stand up make some noise.
Nah-nah-nana! Stand up make some noise!

Sit on the bed alone… staring at the phone…
He wasn’t what I wanted, what I thought, no!
He wouldn’t even open up the door!
He never made me feel like I was special.
He isn’t really what I’m looking for!
He wasn’t what I wanted, what I thought, no…
He wouldn’t even open up the door!
He never made me feel like I was special,
Like I was special,
cuz I was special!!! 4 months ago

lovingeveryminuteTrack 3 -- Early Childhood Medley

My mom just told me that when my grandmother lived in El Paso with her third husband, she learned a bunch of cute little children’s songs, which I always thought had been passed down through several generations of the family. At least I do remember my GREATgrandmother singing them with me. I guess she had some already and learned some from her daughter. Anyway, I’m sure to remember more as time goes on, but I’ll just add to this post instead of making separate tracks for each of them.

So: Early Childhood Medley

This is the way the Ladies Ride, a knee bouncing song
The child role-plays a lady, who rides side-saddle while the “horse’s” heels rise gently; a gentlemen, who rides straddling while both feet bounce off the floor, and a farmer, who holds on tight, cuz the “horse’s” legs alternate in a full (sitting) jog.
This is the way the Ladies Ride
tra-tra-tra-tree, tra-tra-tra-tree
This is the way the Ladies Ride
trah-tra-tree-tra-tree!

This is the way the Gentlemen Ride
gallopy-trot, gallopy-trot!
This is the way the Gentlemen Ride
gallopy, gallopy trot!

This is the way the Farmers Ride
Hobbledy-hoy, Hobbledy-Hoy!
This is the way the Farmers Ride
Hobbledy-hoy-de-hoy!

Trot, Trot to Boston
Trot, trot to Boston, trot, trot to town;
Turn your little girls UPside down!

Itsy Bitsy Spider
Everyone already knows these words in English, so here they are en español:
la araña pequeño, subio el aquadero
vino la lluvia, llevando le afuera
salio el sol, y seco el aquadero
y la araña pequeño subio lo de nuevo.
heh :)

Where is Thumbkin?
(Start with hands behind back)
Where is thumbkin? Where is thumbkin?
Here I am! Here I am!
(each hand to front, thumb up)
How are you today, sir? Very well, I thank you.
(Wiggle thumbs toward each other)
Run away. Run away.
(Hide each hand behind back)

Where is pointer? Where is pointer?
Here I am! Here I am!
(index fingers up)
How are you today, sir? Very well, I thank you.
Run away. Run away.

Where is tall man? Where is tall man?
Here I am! Here I am!
How are you today, sir? Very well, I thank you.
Run away. Run away.

Where is ring man? Where is ring man?
Here I am! Here I am!
How are you today, sir? Very well, I thank you.
Run away. Run away.

Where is pinkie? Where is pinkie?
Here I am! Here I am!
How are you today, sir? Very well, I thank you.
Run away. Run away.

Where is the family? Where is the family?
Here we are! Here we are!
How are you this morning? Very well, we thank you.
Run away. Run away.

The Church Doors
Here’s the church, and here’s the steeple
Open the doors, and see all the people!
(OK, so technically this one’s not a song, but it has finger movements, and I would still put it on my soundtrack.)

This Little Piggie Went to Market
This little piggie went to market;
This little piggie stayed home;
This little piggie had roast beef;
This little piggie had none;
This little piggie yelled
wee, wee, wee, wee, wee
All the way home.

I’m a Little Teapot
I’m a little teapot, short and stout!
Here is my handle and here is my spout!
When I get all steamed up, then I shout-
Tip me over and pour me out!

whitelotus75Beautiful World -- Adam Crossley

Strawberry lips shining in the summer sun
Canary-tips glowing there for everyone
You fell asleep under the cherry tree
La La La La La
It’s a beautiful world we’re all here

Your winter skin warming in the summer sun [summer sun]
We know within you will stay forever young [forever young]

You fell asleep under the starlit sea
It’s time to wake up
The moon is high above you
We’re all here ‘cause we love you
And when you finally open your eyes and ears
You’ll see and you’ll hear us sing

La La La La La
It’s a beautiful world we’re all here
La La La La La
It’s a beautiful world we’re all here
La La La La La
It’s a beautiful world
It’s a beautiful world

You fell asleep under the starlit sea
It’s time to wake up
The moon is high above you
We’re all here ‘cause we love you
And when you finally open your eyes and ears
You’ll see and you’ll hear us sing

La La La La La
It’s a beautiful world we’re all here

ErinIt's not finished...obviously

I have 5 tracks so far:

1 – Free for the moment – The Martins

played it day after day after I watched Empire Records and fantasised about shaving all my hair off just like Robin Tunney did.

2 – Better Son/Daughter – Rilo Kiley

I kind of decided this was my theme song, it’s good, all about facing the world with a smile even when you feel like shoving your head in a toilet:)

3 – Then She Appeared – XTC

Gilmore Girls, loved this song and searched for ages and ages till I found it:)

4 – Given to Fly – Pearl Jam

I have a thing about Sunrises, I stayed up all night one weekend at the beach with my parents because I didn’t have an alarm clock (and it was before everybody had cell phones, I don’t even think my dad had his first Nokia00000000000001 with the 9 Metre aerial yet). So when dawn finally came I went out to the rocks to enjoy the morning sun…and it was overcast. And the batteries were dying so Eddie Vedder had a particularly deep voice that day:)

5 – Ode to My Family – The Cranberries

My first dance with a boy:) It was std 4, it was our school “disco”/”social” and this boy asked me to dance….after my friends asked him to ask me. So there we go. Not SO special but at the time it meant a lot. 21 months ago

ErinA Few new songs which are part of the soundtrack of my life!

6 – Give me one Reason – Tracy Chapman

This is the song I used to convince Randall on SA Idols that I was worthy of my Golden Ticket. BOOYAH!

7 – Stand By Me – ben E. King

This is the song I started with that Randall dissed before I even got to the 3rd line. However, despite Randall’s opinion, it is still an awesome song:)

8 – Rooster – Alice in Chains

During school holidays I used to stay up til dawn and then walk to the highway overpass by my house. I would listen to this song over and over on my TAPE walkman (rewinding over and over) while doing my balancing trick on the dividing barricade between the road and the walkpath whilst waiting for the sun to rise:)

9 – The Laughing Gnome – David Bowie

When me and my brother and sister were just little we used to love this song and make our dad turn it up if it was playing in the car:) Good times:)

10 – Carrie Anne – The Hollies

This song was on a music mix tape of my brothers. I used to steal his tape and listen to it because I worshipped him. This song is one I loved and have loved ever since:) 7 months ago
