After writing my last entry I cleaned off the fireplace mantle, grabbed the large mirror from the foyer, and installed it above the mantle. I then removed one of the extensions from the tall black lamp (to shorten it) and moved it into the bedroom. Next I removed 3 extensions from the 2nd lamp and moved that into the bedroom, on top of the night stand. I now have one lamp on either side of the bed, at the same height as the picture frames.
I stacked some of the books from the headboard onto the chair and then propped my framed painting from Barcelona on top. Once I get glass in the frame I might actually hang it on the wall above, but then again, I like the look of it where it is.
I took the rest of the books out to the living room where I tidied up the bookshelf and moved some of the items onto the fireplace mantle.
I put the old bedroom lamp onto the mantle and now I have lighting on both sides of the living room. I really like how the mirror, being directly across from my 3 framed pieces of art, reflects and showcases it nicely.
Back to the bedroom I put organizers into the nightstand drawers which helped declutter and then I added a 2nd curtain layer in preparation for colder nights.
Tomorrow morning I will do the summer/winter clothing swap and then my room can’t get any done-er. :-D 2 years ago

I purchased a plain reversable taupe/brown duvet cover, with matching pillowcases, at asda for £10 and then today I found a purple throw at primark for under £2.
The purple throw, burgundy pillow, and green rug are all the colours in my curtains.
I also moved one of the dining chairs int the ‘corner’ (this hides the torn wallpaper). Now I just need to a) properly make the bed [I was in a hurry since the boiler man was on his way over, and no that is not a euphemism] and b) move all the books from my headboard to the living room.
In the photo the wall looks so plain above the chair, but in person I feel it would make the room too cluttered. I have an idea about shortening the tall lamps from the living room and moving them to either side of the bed and then moving the bedside lamp into the living room.
I’ll let you know tomorrow how that goes :-D 2 years ago

I’ve had pretty fabric up on a tension rod, slapped up rather half-heartedly (clear duct tape to make the hem), and when they fell down (the tape un-stuck) a couple weeks ago I just never bothered to pick them up (slacker!).
Today I picked them up, ironed a shirt-tail hem, used needle and thread to sew a hem, and then popped those babies back up.
Additionally, I cut the pretty sage-colored cord I had, tying a decorative knot in the centre of each, and thus creating two simple tie-backs. 2 years ago

yay, that one is all done—photo is a bit blurry and the bed is unmade and from the pic I see I need to straighten a couple, but I’m quite pleased with the result (thanks Abs!)
now for the other walls… 2 years ago

Now that my room has been painted and the furniture is all back in place, I’d like to finish it off by hanging some stuff on the walls. I have one large mirror above the radiator, but the rest of the wall(s) are blank. I purchased 7 small frames from Au Naturale, and these will go in a line above my bed. I am in process of converting them for hanging by attaching eye-hooks and wire, but I’m at a loss for what I want to put inside the frames.
The frames are wood, then clear glass, and then silver metal with a 3”x3” square for a picture. Considering the location, it won’t look right to have actual photos in there so I’d thought about putting plain, coloured squares. My friend Caroline suggested textured squares, and I’d even thought of putting in swatches from my curtain material and nightstand swag to sort of tie it all in. Or maybe cutting up an old map?
Ideas, anyone? 2 years ago

My total expense was only $20.00. What made the most difference was getting the crap out of there. Once I could see the floor, the surface of the side table and the chair, I could see more what I needed to do.
I had some old paints, and I unified the clock, picture frames and lamp and candle holders so that they all “matched” the quilt better. None of them are really the same color, but they blend together like the quilt patches. It looks great and cost me nothing.
The money was spent on a lampshade and some candles. I also place some “nutritious” reading materials on the bedside, which has led to me being more regular in bible reading and journaling. And now that I have a place to set my coffee mug, I can enjoy fresh coffee every morning while I read. 5 years ago

I have this done now, and it has made a big difference. One of the best things I have done in there is to be consistent about keeping it clean and neat. I have no paperwork in there, no mending, no dirty clothes, nothing but books and clean sheets no matter what.
One thing I DO wish for is a queen sized bed. I have a double. 5 years ago

I already have many stones, branches, shells, flowers, etc on my desks, a digital painting from a friend on a wall and a pretty shawl hanged over my window. I’d like to find more things to hang on the walls and on the roof. Dried leaves, flowers, pine cones, I want it to be organic ! :) 6 years ago

I am making progress now. I need a new bedspread, but since I did not have a head board, I improvised with wall decorations made out of wrought iron. I also hung some pictures and silk flowers and decluttered all the space, so that I only have what is clean and beautiful and useful. I have a lamp, a bookshelf, and a side table and a television. Pretty nice space, but needs curtains still. 6 years ago
